    Tropical Roofs (Double Roof)

Michael - I have noticed the same thing - it's actually cooler with the tent on the roof. Not a lot, but cooler. Back in the day, when I lived in the Jamaica, the old Series Land Rovers had not yet been displaced by Toyotas. Almost all of the ones used on the properties (ranches and farms) had...

Someone please explain this to me??

This unit, or something like it, is a good idea, but does not provide the "double duty" that a true dual battery set-up can. It don't think it is intended to start a vehicle, though you could swap batteries, nor does it appear to be designed to run high amp draws like a winch. Otherwise a nice...

    RTT on a full size?

A number of our customers have fitted RTTs to their full size trucks with a standard lumber rack. Plenty of room underneath for ATV or dirt bikes. We have seen it done on trailers, too.

    Ford Powerstroke HPOP Fuel System

I would like to know how many of these reported problems are on trucks that have been modified from factory trim... new exhaust, after market air intakes and filters, 'chipped' engines, etc. Any idea how the mania for modding these diesels effects reliability? M

    Ford Powerstroke HPOP Fuel System

Very enlightening and useful thread. I discovered much of this info when researching my truck purchase - probably the major reason I bought a 7.3L, plus the recommendation of Gary Wescott and my own experience with my earlier Ford F50 diesel. I am getting 20+ MPG on the road. Love the truck!

Thinking about buying a 2005 F250: Would appreciate your opinion

Having just recently shopped for and bought a later 7.3L SD, I can assure you that they are bringing good prices because of strong market demand. If you can get a high end (Lariat or King Ranch) model in 2001 to early 2004 with moderate miles, you will retain resale value fairly well. I had a...

Best engine for Land Cruiser Troopy

I would be sure to consider the weight of the engine that you are considering. I expect that a Toyota 4.2L 1HD-T or similar would be a good choice, and could be matted to all Toyota components - clutch, transmission, transfer case, drive lines, etc. with a lot of tricky adaptors and alterations...

Thinking about buying a 2005 F250: Would appreciate your opinion

Eric, my 2001 7.3L TDI F350 4X4 gets 20+ on the highway, has 3.73 gears and automatic. But it is white. Some people like the 6.0L, other hate it. I do not know who is right. I have owned a number of Ford trucks (back to the early 80's), and been very satisfied with the durability of all of them.

    Battery Recommendations Requested (Jeep)

Ditto on the DEKA batteries. I am running Deka AGMs in my 80, in my Airstream (banks of 6V GC batteries), and shortly will have them in my Ford F350 - assuming I can get a fit for the duals. They also COST LESS THAN OPTIMA BATTERIES. I used Optima Yellow Tops in a couple of my Landcruisers, but...

Wanting to get a revolver for me and wife

I am very partial to Smith and Wesson revolvers. Stainless weapons, in particular, are good for camping, canoeing, fishing, etc. S&W makes a wide range of .38 caliber revolvers in stainless and blued steel, with various frames and barrel lengths. I am at the two ends of the spectrum - a S&W 4"...

Increase Traction w/o a rear locker? How?

I never had lockers until I got my 80. I used "Foot Lockers" - put some brake pressure on to convince the open diff to drive the grounded wheel. Works!

    Rack ideas for maggiolina?

One simple solution is an 1/8" thick hard rubber of poly/teflon pad between the mounting rail and the cross bar. Or you could simply use an additional mounting plate in the same position. This lifts the tent JUST enough to clear the top strap on the Yakima brossbar. Thos bears only against the...

    Stronger pinion

There used to be a guy who made a FF conversion kit for LCs and there was a link on MUD at one time. I think he is quit now. As for Warn hubs in the rear, I have a Warn FF conversion on my '47 Willys (41 rear) with Warn Premium hubs and it seems plenty strong. The Willys tows like a wagon, but...

    Are DIY toilets legal?

Many of the river float fishing guides that I know use a 'turd bucket' - just a 5 gallon plastic paint bucket with a snap on lid. This seems to satisfy both BLM and NFS people.

    2005-2006 Ford 6.0s?

A lot of people prefer the predecessor 7.3L Navistar engine. This was discontinued early in the 2004 model year. They bring a bit of a premium in the used market.

    Stronger pinion

You can get FF rears for the 60 - stock from foreign spec 60's. You can swap in your gearset, 3.73 or 4.10. I did this on my 60 when the OME suspension was installed.

    Roof top tent mounting questions?

I like the two racks shown. A less expensive solution would be a Thule Xsporter or pro rack system, or a lumber rack. I have a customer who has a lumber rack with a medium Columbus mounted forward over the cab portion of the rack, and a small lounge/deck at the rear of the rack. He uses the...
