16-17-18ish 4runner
14-16 100 series LC
Not mentioned yet the LC handles highway emergency manuvers without going up on 2wheels. Thats the reason I ditched my 4runner after my 2nd close call. My LC J80 was far superior the 100 is even better. Today I run a 06 Sequoia needed more room.
Syncro us cool for the solo guy that likes to tinker. I know three people with em. Big $$$$$, lots of tinker time, super cool rigs. Terrible family trip machine. Kids dont tolerate unexpected vehicle issues very well. That and a wife having to entertain kids while you tweak or fix something on...
I like it! I've often wondered about the old turn buckle approach. Zero give and like 100% are cheap china buckles these days.
My sail boat racing background I would probably rig up some fancy tech line type tie downs if I had a fwc.. Some day!!!
I just think of the trail heads I park at. Certain really cool vehicles parked in the same are make it so much easier leaving my Subaru or toyota knowing no one will screw with em.
I'd love to have a lux SUV but every time I go hiking. I smile knowing my ride probably has the lowest screw with...
RRT on a motorcycle trailer my only warning would be axle length ie trailer width vs tip stability. The motorcycle type trailers are narrow.
On a side note I saw a hard core Hells Angel riding a clapped out Harley towing a 18ft Zodiac down Highway 80 at 75mph a few yrs ago. At first I thought...
Sprinters are very bendy. A good friend had one for a few yrs. An off camber parking spot in his driveway had the rear doors 3 inches out of alignment if they were left open as he moved it to the spot.
Any van or wagon body flexes quite a bit. Even my Subaru will flex enough to jam the sunroof...
LoL If I had that budget..

I wouldn't limit my adventure to dry dirt ;-)
Looking forward to reading your adventure blog.
I'm thinking a weak battery. Easy check. Once your back together fire up the van. Check the voltage at the battery you should see something in the 13-14.5 volts with the van idling.
Have the fridge cycle on with your meter on the battery. You probably wont see a drop or maybe a volt at most...
I had to replace my steel 13inch wheels with Aluminum wheels. The 13s were getting wobbly. The aluminum wheels look good but even better they dont bend. So dont be surprised by end of season 1 you see some wobbly wheels in the rear view mirror.
Next to the ice box. So far 7 yrs its been our go to set up. Plenty of seating room, easy to talk to each other, pass snacks etc. My only want is more load capacity.
Shoulder season camping the tent rig isnt ideal. If we did shoulder season the 16foot double axle bunk bed livin lite and a...
Already been doing it in CA. 4yr old, 7yr old, mom, dad and dog.
Couple of thoughts.
Our primary trips are Early Summer or end of summer. So 2 season type gear works fine.
In our case we experimented with multi location trips and base camp type trips. We also owned a Land Cruiser, switched to a...
Mercedes announced last fall putting the largest invesment in diesel engine development. The new engines have emissions systems nearly identical to the gassers. Cant recall where I read it but there was a side comment by a Cummings engineer that next gen diesels will need less or zero emissions...
Current Diesel engine design talk sounds like next gen diesels will probably not have the various emissions stuff the current models have. So thats a plus.
I've seen some EGR delete peeps plug em back in recently. Apparently they? Not sure who is starting to crack down on this and penalty fees are getting high.
I like the little 2.8 and dont see the point of doing all the mod stuff for power given if you want speed and or power there are some...
Just a side note we saw a 9mpg gain after ditching the expanded metal rear ramp on a friends 4x6 being pulled by his subaru. Those Gardner crew trailers with tall ramps are like dive bomber air brakes off wwII aircraft. Ditch the big ramp gate, rig up ramps you can slide out and pin. And a...
Off grid lighting controllers designed to be in a box with the battery double as the power source for the light. I run one in my power box. I power my set up using the controller to take advantage of its cut off logic, to prevent battery damage. Power comes from the battery.
Silly no... The battery acts as a power calming ie stability device. But regardless of that, power in - power out it doesnt matter.
Think of it like a water system, if you only water directly from your rain gutter its either flood or drought. Add a water tank and you can control flow. Same...
