I have a question, piece shown appears be a typical male QD which in most cases is a open direct thru opening. wouldn't the corresponding female connector (self sealing) be what should go on the can (source) to prevent spill or leakage?
It's truly the 'small' details that are setting your build apart. Bending those compound mounts is amazing and as long as you still have all your fingers intact you're ahead.
Not to be Freudian but balls are balls but the size of the shaft will have a larger impact on any failure. I have seen tow balls with 3/4" shafts and others with 1 1/8" shafts. FWIW just because you've seen it done doesn't mean it's safe IMHO.
