What is influencing your decisions between building and Buying an expedition trailer?

I'll chime in here with my thoughts...I found that it was easier to do what I do for a living and save up enough money to have someone build one for me. Granted, I have delved into the 'do-it-yourself' realm for other things, and I have learned that there are professionals for every skill and...

Outlander Trailer Sherpa II project...Dial-up beware!

Rear compartment / Fender boxes The rear compartment was configured with a 15 gallon water tank. We had decided to have the fill valve on the fridge side. Got a brass cap to plug the valve while in transit... Rear compartment: I bought an truck bed mat at Tractor Supply and cut it to fit...

Outlander Trailer Sherpa II project...Dial-up beware!

Engel / Electrical system / Faucet Got the transit bag for the Engel 45 installed. Fridge is on a custom tray fabbed up by Robert. If you ask me, it's about a perfect fit for front compartment... The Engel is locked into place with a quick release pin. Even the small details are...

Outlander Trailer Sherpa II project...Dial-up beware!

Tent solution... Don, I went with the Mombasa 3 man tent for now. I also have an REI alcove with 2 windwalls for the Trekker Port-a-privy for the 'courtyard'. This setup has been quite good so far. I was thinking about getting a cot with a mosquito net under the alcove...I'm still working...

Outlander Trailer Sherpa II project...Dial-up beware!

Well... I must admit that the 4runner with the v6 labors at times pulling the Sherpa II...Coming home from Arkansas, I noticed that in the hills, the 4runner started to 'bonk'. Needless to say, my next vehicle purchase will have a bigger v6 or a v8. Gas mileage loss was minimal. Knocked me...

Outlander Trailer Sherpa II project...Dial-up beware!

Here she is... Here are the pics that I have been able to get. I must say that this process has been 3 years in the making, and it has been worth every minute of it. Big props to all of the fine craftsmen that took part in the build. I could not have done this by myself...Robert Shepherd...

Too hot in KS for RTT camping...

Yeah, but it's a 'wet' heat... Grew up in Albuquerque...When it was 100+, you just found shade...Here in KS, you cannot run or hide from the combination of humidity / heat. My dear wife was a trooper last weekend. She grew up 'glamping' in an RV as a child. She did not mind too much...

Too hot in KS for RTT camping...

All, Just went car camping this past weekend with the Outlander trailer. I wanted to get the hang of the operations of the trailer / tent system...Anyway, what do you guys do for keeping cool inside the tent when it is hot and humid outside? We had 2 battery operated fans, and it was still...

Outlander Trailer Sherpa II project...Dial-up beware!

    Kirkham auto canopy...

I not really, I just prefer these tie downs to the flimsy ones from the factory... Funny you should ask this, It is small enough to fit it into the car. I have decided to put it in the car in between my custom cabinet system and the back seat of the 4runner... Thanks for the kind words...

    Post your Camp Awnings

I have used this canopy a few times, and it has been quite good. Not as elegant as a Hanibal, Eezi awn or ARB...but for $60, why not... Regards, BWJ

    Bigwapiti's consolidated thread...Dial-up beware!

Kirkham's auto canopy I have used this canopy quite a few times, and it has been quite good. They were closing out the blue color ones, and I got it for $60 bucks (poles, stakes, storage bag included). Not as elegant as a Hanibal, Eezi awn or ARB...But I figure I'll use this for awhile...

Awning question during WINDY tailgating events...

All, What are you guys doing when you use your awning at places where tent spikes cannot be used? Are you using sand bags? dumbells? I needed to use my Kirkham auto canopy at an event that was in a parking lot one time, and it was not as 'turn key' as I would have liked. I have tried some...

    ATTN BajaRack Owners with 4Runners

This rack is NEITHER the Mule or the Mega Mule...It is the Baja Rack specifically for the 3rd generation. I got mine at TRDparts4u (ask for Jacque). The difference between the Mule and the specific 3rd generation rack is how installs on the roof. The 3rd generation has custom feet that slide...

    ATTN BajaRack Owners with 4Runners

I got the rack made especially for the 3rd generation. It comes with 'feet' that will slide into the factory rails. I was not wanting something that would extend too far forward of the rails even though I don't have a sunroof. Since I am getting an Outlander trailer, my needs for the...

Outlander Trailer Sherpa II project...Dial-up beware!

Suspension, axle, and wheels on...Galley option pondering Got some pics of the trailer today. Rims are my OEM wheels that came with the 4runner. Tires are Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 (265/75r16). Rear tire carrier to follow... Galley options Considering the galley option in...

Outlander Trailer Sherpa II project...Dial-up beware!

Powder coating and Tool mounting... Powder coating color: I have decided to powder coat the boxes Anodized Silver. Rationale for the this color choice would be to minimize the heat build up of the boxes during the day. Robert did give the me the option of adding additional vents to the...

Outlander Trailer Sherpa II project...Dial-up beware!

The build has begun... It has been quite a long time since I posted. I have been very busy with projects on my 4runner. I had the original 4 way flat vehicle connector converted to a 7 way round connector. In addition, I took my Armorology bumpers and got them sandblasted and coated with...
