    Roof Top Tent (RTT) Questions

I had a TuffStuff - not sure the model, I think they only had one model back a few years ago when I bought it. #1 - wife hated it. #2 - Mattress was way to compressible (I was going to say thin, but thats not the problem, 2" foam can be sufficiently supportive it its the correct stuff) When...

    Some RTT Questions

$10 per linear foot x 39" wide. I bought 8 or 9 feet and cut it in half. General numbers $80 vs $140 from CVT for a similar size.

4x4 transfer case removal Gen 2.5

I removed the transmission / TC from my old '93 SR as 1 piece. Jackstands to support the truck, floor jack and HF trans jack. Can be done... it was NOT fun. Did not put it back in as the truck was scrapped due to excessive frame rust and blown head gasket. This was also the smaller - lighter...

    Roof Top Tent (RTT) Questions

As a former owner I'll add a few: 2" soft foam mattress generally sux and is included in 90% + of the RTT sellers basic tents. Its been covered a bit - they are not fun to put away if on top of your lifted truck.

Recommendations for 5 person rooftop tent

I owned a TuffStuff (not the 5 person) maybe 5 years ago. Its an OK tent. Like the vast majority its it coming out of the same factory in China as many of them but with a TS label. Mattress is crap like most.

Wife doesn’t want to camp with RTT anymore

Yep, wife didn't like the RTT for the same reason, and I didn't like closing it up on top of the truck, I'm short and getting older, truck is tall. Sold the RTT. Bought a pickup and built a GFC type wedge. Much better. Considerably easier to get in and out of. Take down is no more than 2...

7 Pin Trailer Light / Power

It shouldn't be an issue. I have a 7-pin on my Gen 3. It only adds a power (I wired direct to battery - fused) and brake controller. I skipped the reverse lights, my trailer doesn't have them. You didn't mention it, but you will need a brake controller. I have a Tekonsha, don't remember...

Montero Limited Stuck in Low Range (4LLC) - Help!

I'd be shocked if a tech at a Mitsubishi dealership has any knowledge of these trucks. Most were still in elementary school when the last of them rolled off the lot, combined with the massive closing of Mitsu dealerships after the 2008 crisis, and reopening a few 5 years later.

    Which EV would you buy?

EV / PHEV - own? ie: keep it for more than 3 years? no, not now, technology is too rapidly advancing. Currently has the cell phone model, darned near so different in 3 years you can wait to get a new one, but unlike a cell phone that costs $400+ the EV costs $40K+. I lease a 2018 Outlander...

Montero gen II.5 - what to check when buying?

Common area for heavy rust is rear frame rails from about the rear axle center line and back (I'm referencing rust belt trucks). Not sure why, but every Gen 2.5 is far rustier in this are than the Gen 2. Probably a environmentally friendly coating swap.

Who has the oldest, still working 12 volt fridge/freezer?

I have an Edgestar FP430 that I bought used 10 years ago, not sure how to find real age. If its not in my truck, it serves duty as a beer fridge in the basement, so has virtually been powered up since I bought it. I have replaced the hinges and lift handles with metal versions. The original...
