Yes. All the dana stuff is the same way I think......25/27/30/44/60/etc. You can change the shims to be outside the carrier bearings but it can be a little bit of a pain in the rear finding some parts. Most ARBs are set up this way in Dana axles I think. Its not THAT bad, but it does add an...

No adjusters like a 14-bolt, Ford 9", or Toyota 8". All the adjustment is done with shim stacks on the carrier bearings. The preload is done by adding 'extra' shim on both sides to make it a press fit of sorts.

There is a certain amount of preload on the carrier bearings. Basically the carrier bearing cups with the shims are slightly wider than the housing. The case spreader lets you take some of this pre-load off to make getting the carrier in and out easier.

Well, a bit of progress today.... I had to build this little contraption to get the pinion nut off. It is basically just two studs that slip into a 1310 yoke and locks against the spring or frame. That little bugger is going in the tool bag. You can use a small prybar if you want for the...

I am planning on using a TJ windshield, top, and doors. The aqualu tub I am having quoted is going to have the TJ windshield and door mods done already. You have to run a hot rod style wiper system since the cowl is designed more like a CJ/TJ ( but with the TJ shape/crown ). Kinda a pain but you...

What the entire thing costs or what the tub will cost? I think it is a matter of WHEN I build it, not if :) This will require getting a lot of ducks in a row. My grand vision for this will be one vehicle that can 'replace' my Dodge and Willys. I don't know if I could ever sell the Willys, but...

I'm kinda stuck on this project until I hear back from Aqualu on the tub. I don't want to bug them and am pretty busy getting my Willys ready for a crazy adventure....

I'm trying to get back into the habit of trying to do something every day on the flat fender in preparation for this trip at the end of May.... Yesterday I started trying to hunt down an affordable way to get the stock shovel and axe back on the side of the vehicle. It is just one of those...

JK wheel/ tyre combo for overland travel

Aren't the dodge 1500 wheels 5 on 5.5? Same goes for the J8 axles?

Very much so! I think driving at interstate speeds just isn't practical in these old things.... I did a 750 mile trip over a long 4th of July weekend once. One of the best trips EVER in my life. It was along the Lochsa river in Idaho coming over from Montana. Actually it was both ways. The trip...

His stuff is pretty cool for sure. I am going to stick with a TJ grill, hood, and TJ based fenders I think. The TJ grill is shorter vertically than the CJ5/7/8 grill. That should allow me to run more front frame kick to allow for a little more compression travel space in the front...

Thank you. I think the design work now will pay off later. I'm still waiting on my quote on the tub, and some measurements, from Aqualu. I'm not in a rush, this is going to be a long project I think. Hopefully the all the design work now will let me order the parts for most of the frame and...

The rear axle will be a low pinion design. I think they oil better in the long run....stronger....etc. It would be nice to get the driveshaft up a bit more but the high pinion D60 is only like a 2.25" difference from a low pinion if I remember right.

Ok......had a brainstorm....didn't take a week.... Please excuse my rough model of a D60 axle housing. Details... -Designed to fit as close to the top of the housing as possible. -It would have to be trimmed to fit on top of the center of the housing and perhaps where the diff tube meets...
