British Columbia to Baja; Winter Solstice in the Desert

Awesome TR! Thanks much for sharing. Geologist here as well. Next time your in Sedona hit me up and we'll hit the goods. Hangover is a good one though. Had to be a bit dicey in the wet.

    Diesel engine heat management 6.0

I put a Mag-Hytec on mine. Mostly for the bling factor but I was upgrading to the 6.4 pan to fit the larger filter anyway. The Tru-Cool has been one of the best upgrades I've done on my van. The Aluminess bumper blocks half the air flow and when creep along slow, off-road my tranny temps...

Hyperdrive build - 6" Expovans conversion

I like the wheel choice as as well. 17" or 18" Method Grid wrapped in BFG's? Nice looking rig! Have spent a bit of time in Stanley, mainly mtn biking but great country for sure. I've only done the Main Salmon (guided a trip with Yellow Jacket) but would love to get back there one of these...

Fiamma awnings. Now is the time to buy

I tried the RV place here in town. They carry awnings but much cheaper ones. It's a tradeoff. Tax on a $900 awning if I buy local or eat the shipping. The main reason I posted in this thread was to try and give a forum vendor the business. It's an 85 min drive for me. No biggee either way.

    Diesel engine heat management 6.0

Really, no heat through the dog haus? Dang thing is right on top of the turbo and exhaust pipe. Maybe your dog haus was insulated better than mine. Anyhow, while I had the downpipe off I moved the pyrometer probe to the Y-pipe. Post-turbo on the downpipe is ok but I want pre-turbo reading to...

Fiamma awnings. Now is the time to buy

The gal I called didn't seem interested. They don't stock the F45 just the F35. I'd rather support a forum vendor but whatever I'll just order from the Sportsmobile webstore or directly from Fiamma.

Fiamma awnings. Now is the time to buy

Well, Adventure Trailer didn't work out. I can order direct from Fiamma but good lord the shipping is $200 to a residence.

    Diesel engine heat management 6.0

Interesting. I think wrapping the downpipe made a biggest difference. I couldn't even leave a beverage in the cupholder on the dog haus for longer than 10 min. And the radiating heat on the passenger side was quite noticeable. I also re-insulated the dog haus but it's now a non-issue. And...

Fiamma awnings. Now is the time to buy

Martyn, can you guys order a Fiamma F45S? I don't see that you carry it on your webstore but figured if you could add one to an existing order it might save on shipping from Florida. Would prefer to give you guys the business:sombrero: Besides that, just resurrecting an old thread since...

    Diesel engine heat management 6.0

Did someone say wrap the pipes? One of the best mods I've done to my rig. Heat dissipation is ~200F for every 12" of pipe travelled. Definitely do the up-pipe or Y-pipe. Wrapping the downpipe was a considerable improvement on underhood heat management and the dog haus wifey toast-a-meter...

Big Bend Ranch State Park MLK Weekend January 2017

Oh wow great TR! By coincidence I was in the park, or in Mexico, about the same time running the Rio Grande through Boquillas Canyon with colleagues from Big Bend Nat. Park, Sol Ross U., and the Santa Elena and the Maderas del Carmen protected areas in Mexico. An amazing place. I think we...

    UJOR Build Thread

The one I tried was from Inspired Engineering. From what I could tell it fell somewhere in the middle on quality. Not a cheap Chinese bar but decent with Osram LEDs. http://www.inspired-engineering.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=IE%2D5000C Perhaps "ineffective" isn't the right word. I...

    UJOR Build Thread

Hey Chris I thought you and others might be interested in my sPod mod. I tried your 6.0 mount that attaches to the pass side upper radiator support. There's not much room to add anything under the hood on a van with a 6.0 and thought I'd try something different. So, fabbed another mount on a...

    Diesel or Gas?

I'm not sure about the 7.3, but on my rig with the 6.0 psd with 35" tires and 4.10 gearing the best mileage is at ~2000 rpms. That's 65 mph or so and generally that's where I keep it unless I am in a hurry. I love having a diesel but have never driven a heavy 4x4 van with a gasser. I suspect...

    Diesel or Gas?

Seems like every gasser vs diesel thread devolves into dissention but arguing over who drives the slowest is silly. Just say'n. I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. I'm a leadfoot and like to get places fast but there's something about a 10,000lb van hurtling down the highway at 80mph that is...

    Diesel or Gas?

No Prius here but I do have a VW TDI which get's an un-EPA approved 50mpg. Best my 6.0 psd with lift and 35" tires can do is 14-18 mpg. The lift and going 4x4 probably accounts for 3 or 4 mpg right of the bat.

    Diesel or Gas?

6.0 psd with an 80 HP DD tune and Atlas40 FICM tune in my van. It's really fun and probably close to 400 rwhp. In hindsight I wish I had pulled the motor from the get go and done all the things to make it dependable right off the bat but I wouldn't trade it for a gasser. Ever.

    Radiator issue

Not sure if it will fit but I've got a 6.0 radiator you can have for free. It's been flushed and has 45K on it and coolant was changed at least twice when it was Ford Gold and then swapped to an ELC.
