A few things to consider about my particular swap are that several items could be deleted, or done on your own to save a good bit of money. I am very, very color blind for one, so this means that the wiring would have been hell for me. I just felt more comfortable with having Tom do the work...

Since you come from owning LCs and Prados, you know that buying facotry parts is expensive. Vanagons are no different, and while many will say that the cost of ownership, and parts cost is high, I've not found that to be the case after...

Knowing you, get a subaru, or 1.8T or modern diesel powered one. Trust me, the 1.9L and 2.1L suck if they havent been maintained in top notch condition. And getting a van back into top notch condition when someone else...

Base vehicle is a 1985 Vanagon GL with the full Westfalia package. The stock engine was the 1.9L wasserboxer, and stock transaxle...
You may want to look at Camping Lab; they are the same style and mfg as the ARB sans name. The ship from FL, and can be had for about $275 delivered.
