    Torsion Axle for camping trailer

Unfortunately this discussing will never come to a conclusion. The only way for an individual to decide which suspension type works best for them is to run an identical trail with trailers fitted with all the different suspensions. I learned a long time ago you can't sell a fridge to someone...

    Torsion Axle for camping trailer

We used Dexter 3500 lb torsion axles, we did so to get the larger bearings which we consider essential for off road use, and then had the axle de-rated by Dexter to 2500 lbs to reduce the stiffness. Sorry to say it didn't help much.

    Torsion Axle for camping trailer

Agreed, it's all about airing opinions and experiences and allowing people to make their own decisions. Part of the decision making has to be on ride quality. If you base this on military performance it leaves some questions hanging. Military trailers are built and designed for full loads...

    Torsion Axle for camping trailer

Sort of a tough topic as Torsion axles seem to bring out strong opinions in some of our members. I wrote an article on axles, you can read it here. We tried torsion axles for a very short period of time on our trailers and found them not to fit the bill for us as a manufacturer. We used Dexter...

Spy photo of new AT Trailer

The trailer was a joint project between AT and an Australian trailer manufacturer. We were making the trailer, they were supplying the tent. The Australian side failed to come through. At the time we couldn't find a tent manufacturer in North America who could work with heavy weight material, or...

    flip pac flapping noise

I think the flapping is coming from the center roof vent. As a strong gust of wind hits the tent the internal pressure is released through the vent. It's a good design as it stops the tent from deforming as it's pushed by the wind. As you found out the billowing can be noisy, and your ingenious...

Wheel adapters on Chaser Trailer - Safe?

Sean it's safe so long as the adapters are torqued correctly to the hubs and the wheels are torqued correctly to the adapters. The issue you face is you now have a five bolt pattern on your hubs and your 80 series has a 6 bolt pattern. You would have to use a two piece adapter to make this...

    Newest Max Coupler

I have been in contact with Max Coupler. They have a fix kit for the coupler that will be sent out shortly to everyone who has bought the new style coupler, (pictured above). The issue is that the shear pin can start to back out of the hole it is pressed into. I'm not certain what the fix is...

Old Man Emu Shocks on a F250?

I'm running OME shocks on my F250, had them on for over two years. They perform very well and have improved the ride both on and off road. ARB still has them in stock, I think they pulled most of the Ford full size parts off their site as it wasn't a big seller.

    Interesting Australian Suspension

Here are the comments of the trailer owner: "Yeah Gday mate.Indeed the axle is located using torsion rubbers. The camper trailer is very light. After I've loaded 65 litres of Diesel, 40 litres of water and all the camping gear the suspension starts to get a workout. Recently went into the...

    Interesting Australian Suspension

Bill, I think you may be right, the last thing he says is he'll be using swing arms with bushings from now on. What he found out was that even after heavily modifying the torsion axle with double shocks the axle failed catastrophically in the desert. He even went as far as to add air bags prior...

    Plumbing Help

Heat exchange water heaters usually use the vehicle cooling system to heat the water or a 12 volt electric element. Both the coolant and the primary electrical are a long way from a trailer and would need some sort of fast disconnects. The electrical heat exchanger can be set up in the trailer...

    Plumbing Help

Link the tanks up with a common tube. Single line from one tank to the pump. T after pump to hot side and cold side. Various pumps on the market, make sure they are in the 40psi range or have adjustable pressure settings. I'd suggest a pressure sensitive pump, one that turns on when the...

Snorkel Install. Am I being ripped off?

A large part of Adventure Trailers business is vehicle conversions, so yes we do install snorkels. It's hard to say how long a snorkel install takes as it varies from vehicle to vehicle. While some are very straight forward and quick others, like my Ford F250 was long and complicated. Cutting...
