Does anyone know the factory setting for caster on your typical npr or fuso? My truck is obviously not factory but it's a start. It's currently about 2 degrees and anywhere up to around 10 degrees seems common. Just wondering what is typical on a truck like this and if I should try for more.
It's about 2". I am concerned with that too but it was the best I could fit in that space. If I end up needing more room I will have to make some changes. I am on the fence about a coil sprung front end anyway....
I rebuilt an entire car once that had previously won a pro level race. It was a World Challenge Corvette. Many of the wire connections were twisted together, zip tied to lock the twist, then taped. It was hilarious going through that car. The guy who built it is still highly regarded in the...
Personally I would run 1 long leg to power them all and T off of that leg to each light. Use bare butt crimps and cover with hear shrink. Use sealed heat shrink outside. Same process for ground. 14 seems sufficient for LEDs but I would go off of what they require power wise and choose the wire...
You could get away with lower pressures in winter with the added cooling effect but what you would look for is an increasing temperature over time. If you touch a tire after running at high speed for a while and it's too hot to touch, it's probably running too hot.
Your last sentence contradicts the rest of your post it seems... I don't think it's necessarily so cut and dry. Like I posted before, each tire has a different spring rate at a given pressure. On the road at speed, we want the correct pressure so as to not over heat the tire and to provide the...
Yeah you're correct. I am not using all the travel in the steering box but I could change that by making a different bellcrank with a different ratio. It wasn't too difficult to make. I did put the truck on the ground and steered it with no power assist and it wasn't terrible considering the...
Then I bolted the super steer pivot to my frame and machined a bellcrank from 1" steel plate with tapered holes to accept the taper on the pivot and the taper on the tie rods. Please ignore the rough finish on the bellcrank. I'm not done carving on it.
4 turns lock to lock.
I've been working on the steering linkage to convert the Isuzu's front to back steering into side to side steering for the Dana 60. The following pics are what I came up with.
I cut up and turned down part of the Isuzu linkage and mated it to some 1.5" x .250" wall DOM with a 7/8" x 18 bung...
Any given tire has a given spring rate at a given pressure. The tire manufacturer should know those numbers. I would try to match spring rates between tires or tailor the pressure to suit your application. Just don't run over the max on the sidewall or too low. Too low and heat buildup at speed...
I haven't considered axle upgrades. I don't think I'll ever be over the weight that is doable with what I have. My camper box is small and light and I'm keeping most things as light as possible. Shooting for 15k lbs or less. That's also less weight than the hummer tires are good for.
Sure! Come on by any time I ordered this part from supersteer
I believe it's the same piece that Rebel used on their Isuzu. I am going to fabricate the rest of the linkage next. I think it should be pretty straight forward at this point.
Another option is to get an alternator that is built into a generator shell so as to look stock and original. I know these are popular for vintage car owners who wish to keep their cars "concourse" or exactly as delivered from the factory.
More progress. I am really close to ready for driveshafts to be made. I got the rear of the frame stripped and painted, finished the suspension arm mounts, installed the transfer case brace and fabricated new engine and transmission mounts.
Yeah they claimed to use torque sticks so there is no way they could overtorque. I told them torque sticks aren't meant to be used on a mega impact gun set on kill with the shop air pressure maxed out.... They had no clue
I hate when shops won't own up to their mistakes or do so begrudgingly. I remember once I got new tires at a firestone store. The next day I see a missing lug nut. Upon inspection the stud is broken. So I assume it's a random occurrence and replace the stud. As I'm putting the wheel back on, two...
I recentered some Hummer wheels for my NPR. Trail Worthy Fab sells different centers to match different bolt patterns. I bet they would build you a set to your specs if you called them. You end up with a 16.5" wheel that is double beadlock capable. I built mine with the PVC beadlock insert.
