I have the intercooler that goes with the 6BT out of a box truck. It almost fits between the frame and isn't much different in size compared to stock NPR, its just configured differently. I have a friend with another NPR parts truck and I will be robbing parts off of it. It will be the easiest...
From reading up on it, it seems like the stock intercooler is more than capable so I think I'll be ok. Does anyone know which NPR had the bigger intercooler? Seems like there are a few sizes
Thanks! Looks like nice stuff. I have a similar heater and water tank but I lack the radiator to heat the camper. I also like that tempering valve. My tank didn't come with one.
With the larger cummins engine in my rig does anyone have an opinion on the capability of the stock radiator and intercooler to manage the heat from the Cummins? Is there a common upgrade for either unit? I could easily come up with custom solutions but I would like to keep these items as off...
I agree on the break over angle. I plan on shortening the wheelbase probably 2'. It's currently 147". The suspension flexes pretty good as is though. I jacked the right front up until the tire was nearly a foot from the ground and the rear was firmly planted. I may redo the 4 link structure...
Thanks everyone. I am really excited to get this thing on the road.
Anyone want to chime in about welding to the frame? The manual has strict limits on it but I am thinking that it is over cautious. Has anyone seen any failures of the frame from welding? I think I will bolt most of the things...
Here are some more pics as it sits. Let's hear what everyone thinks. It will be a while before I get much done on it but my first plan is making it run and drive.
I've been reading up on modification done to these chassis and it seems that the factory is very concerned about where you weld to the frame. Looking at all the stock structure on my NPR and every bit is bolted or riveted. It seems as if this is the factory covering their own asses because they...
I've read all about chassis flew and 3 point mounts etc. etc. but it seems to apply to Fusos and Mogs. Is this as much of an issue with the NPR chassis?
I forget whose name is on the title but I signed a release of liability with RTM productions. It's not running or driving yet. Needs plenty of wiring, plumbing, steering fab, shocks, etc etc. but lots has been done. I removed the flatbed already and will sell it if I can. Maybe shorten the...
Good stuff. I will be watching. My recent acquisition is a similar truck but tilt cab and cummins power. Lots of work left for both of us. I too would like a removable camper as I also run a fab shop and it would make a great shop truck
Thanks!
Reviewing some of the episodes and I found it has a rebuilt 261 T case with the slip yoke eliminator conversion. The 6BT is from a reputable dealer. The trans is an Allison 1000 from a Chevy truck and includes a billet adapter to the cummins.
Yeah I am doing some work on an upcoming episode of Power Nation and it was just sitting there. I asked about it and they made an offer that was impossible to pass up.
So I have made a major change in direction with this build. I acquired an Isuzu NPR with a killer 4wd conversion. I will still finish my current camper and mount it to the NPR but in the future I envision building a camper box more suited to the NPR then selling my current camper to someone who...
