2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

Agreed on staking it down at the bottom and guy lines. However, that too didn't stop the microburst!!! It was one of the worst I've experienced, but I doubt any awning would survive that one. I was lucky to get it put back up.

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

Yes, It does completely cover the back! It's been a nice addition to the truck. However, I about lost it in the Bad Lands, SD. I had a microburst from a thunderstorm hit. I didn't have the side panels out and I barely made it out there to get the awning put up. There were a lot of tent campers...

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

Other than a few small storage boxes, nothing major as of yet. However, at 75k miles, I am in the market for new tires. A few other options I'll be adding is more rear lighting when backing up, but I'm quite happy so far. I have made three trips out to Montana and still trying to get ready for...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

Your original post stated you were considering a diesel for the following reasons: Mileage range for longer trips Not taking as big a mpg hit after level (leaning towards Carli), and 35s or 37s Possibly going with a drop in camper down the line (FWC) It would be my daily driver for now. Work...

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

Here is a photo from this past winter. ...And another from Overland East. Note the photo was taken BEFORE it was noting but a giant muddy mess. The green grass under the truck was the only thing left. While it dampened the festivities, at least it became a good test for extreme outdoor...

Actually yes! I had planned to go there this year, but I will have to put it off till next year. This year will be another road trip from the Carolina's to Montana.

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

I've looked over the Spods but I'm not sure at this point my wallet can take that kind of hit! I'll be headed to the Overland Expo East in November for the weekend. I'm sure I'll be picking up a few more Ideas, but I think I need to prioritize my budget a little. Hopefully I will see some of...

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

I think I've seen that mentioned somewhere else but forgot about it. I think the Spod is a great suggestion. I'll check that out!

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

One of the websites I search showed the specs as being 330lbs. It's a beast to be sure. Adding the weight of the Warn 16.5tis, its 435 pounds of additional weight on the front of the truck. However, I have not noticed any substantial difference when driving. One of the things I'm going to do is...

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

Finally got the bumper installed and lights mounted, but it will take me a week or so to get all the wiring and winch spooled up. Still, its at least on and the heavy work is completed. Thanks for the recommendation for this bumper. The shop hands couldn't believe how easily it was to mount and...

    3/4 ton fuel economy?

For what is worth, I have a 2017 Dodge 2500 6.7 CC, 4x4, 34" AT tires, and everything is stock. I do have a truck cap, Rhino Rack and Foxwing awning. I've taken two trips from SC to Montana for extended fly fishing trips over the summer. Average crusing around 70 - 75 mph I get around 21 mpg in...

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

So I got the call today. The bumper is ready for shipment. Its been a few weeks now and I look forward to getting this next box checked. In the mean time, I've been educating myself on recovery equipment from those with more than my rookie knowledge. Thank you to all those who share knowledge on...

    Plain vs Serrated Blade

I've spent a lot of time in the woods and a quality knife is extremely important to me. But, what I would always come down to with advice is personal preference. For me, I think a non-serrated works best. I prefer a fixed blade around 4 to 5 inches in length, flat ground, full tang, and nothing...

    Expedition One Rear Bumper

I came extremely close to getting their front bumper for my Ram. Even though I made the decision to go with the Trail Ready, I was still considering their rear bumper. Glad I found this post.

Another great article! It answered what I needed to know about soft vs hard shackles, and how best to use them. Thanks!

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

Pretty damming article, but I think the lessons could be applied over several product lines. Thanks for sending this. It helps me to make a better purchasing choice for additional equipment. In your opinion, what is a trustworthy brand for recovery straps and/or rope extensions?

Bayou boy, I actually have some others, but the Smitty built strap was a free item with the purchase. Thanks for turning me on to Crosby! I'll check them out.

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

Question for the experienced here: Given I'm opting for the the synthetic rope, what kind of additional recovery gear should I be looking at. If my ignorance wasn't obvious, I just found some interesting information on "soft shackles". While spendy, it seems like a must have item(s). I've also...

2017 Dodge Ram 2500 - An Overland work in Progress

I got the new winch and a few other goodies in today, but it's still going to be another three or four weeks for the bumper. I think the UPS guy is starting to hate me. I opted for the 16.5 tis, synthetic rope. I don't have any experience with the rope but I've heard nothing but good things.
