ha, yeah, its an experience doing this project for sure.
i got the oil cooler out and rebuilt last night, installed the blue spring and prepped the intake for install.
when i cleaned the intake at the car wash, chunks of soot came out, a dip in a hot tank would have cleaned it better, or a steam pressure washer, but i got most of the soot out.
Will tackle the HPOP STC fitting next and then reassembly begins. goal for today is to have the intake back on and wiring harness clipped back in place.
*reminder to self* lost 2 locking clips for injector wiring clips, and washers for banjo bolts on block and fuel bowl.
Anyone have any thoughts about rerouting the CCV out of the intake tube? no more oil into the intake tube, and no restriction in the intake tube. or is the oil deposits so minimal its not worth the effort.

Im not sure if the wet spots on the turbo are from a leak, or if its just the pb blaster i sprayed on the side prior to slpitting the housing.
theres a bit of rust pitting that ive cleaned up some. going into town tomorrow to get some abrasive pads and nylon wire wheel for my drill to clean the turbo real good and get it back together and start wrapping this project up.
reinstalling the turbo was an ordeal, do not want to do that again.
so far ive got the turbo mounted, oil feed/drain tubes installed, alternator bolted down, 50% of the intake tubing installed, and all the electrical connections are done.
all that is left is find the 8mm wrench i dropped behind the intake pleumn and bolt the intercooler piping, upper coolant hose, and the intake housing/filter, pop the belt on and im done!
when starting the van after all the work has been done, oil completely drained, coolant flushed, fuel filters changed etc.... would it be best to cycle the key 5-6 times to prime all the fuel lines, and then just crank it over, or bump the key a bit so it will turn over and pump some oil where it needs to be then start it?

SUCCESS! 100% back together, and running. had an exhaust leak at first, got that squared away. the only thing left to do is the coolant filter, but i will leave that for another day, and do that in one of those DIY shops instead of up in the mountains in the cold ha.
idle voltage with the DC Power Inc 185 OEM alt. is just under 14.0 volts, FICM is 48-49v so thats good too but i plan to get the Atlas 40 FICM tune soon, as well as a tuner next month.

my great feeling of success was cut short when i blew off the hot side intercooler boot on the turbo. 20 minute road side fix with lots of cursing and more scratched and bloody arms.
but the ultimate test was my drive back from Alma to Denver on i-70, worked flawlessly in the mountains, ECT / EOT never got further than 9* apart and that was on the long hauls up the mountains.
one thing ive noticed is that now im peaking out on boost 4psi lower than before, no idea if it is due to the weather or somehing changed while rebuilding turbo. either way, the power is still there and will see how it reacts with a tune.
what type of tunes are suggested? i am going to use 5 star tuning, and get the SCT X4, which comes with 5 custom tunes when ordering through 5 star.
**Edit** also, where is the best spot to put the EGT probe? in the exhaust manifold before the y pipe, or in the y pipe right before the turbo?

I have plans to get new tires soon, but am wanting to lift/level the front, 4x4 conversion/partial 4x4 conversion is NOT an option, not even a possibility at the moment.
does anyone know a spring that will will swap in and yeild 1 1/2-2" of lift up front? I will be installing 265/75/16s and "should clear" everything with minor trimming, but would still like to level out the front just a tad.
also, what shocks would be reccomended with a 1 1/2-2" lift? stock lengths should work correct since its not adding wheel travel, just basically changing the spot in the travel where it sits so to speak? the bushings at the pivot points will only allow for so much travel in stock configuration before they start to bind.
the "offroad" action the van will see will be dirt/gravel roads, light trail usage where the van will fit, so i dont expect any extreme terrain. would the 5100 replacements be my best bet? or is it worth jumping to a rebuildable shock like king/fox... i figure 5100s would be the best bang for the buck.

just loaded tunes from 5star on my 6.0PSD, i had Mike change the street tune to be a little more conservative, HOLY SMOKES :wings: completely wakes up the van, shifts are a bit more crisp and firm, just putting around town it drives the same as stock, hammer down on it and once the turbo lights it takes off!
Once i provided Mike with my strategy code, i got all the tunes emailed to me within a few hours. very pleased with 5 star tuning. would have no second guesses about recommending 5 star tuning to anyone.
it will let out some black smoke, but it is not like those "rolling coal" videos you see.
I am hoping with a Atlas 40 FICM tune, it will help with lessening turbo lag and increase throttle response and drive ability.
Temps do rise to about 205* after multiple times hammering down stop light to stop light, i will probably install some louvers in the hood to help vent out heat. I need to get my EGT gauge installed soon along with my coolant filter.

so i am getting ready to do shocks/tires on my van, and was going to replace the front coil with a new coil, on another forum, a fella with a quigley has the R.I.P kit from Ramsey which got him about 1.5" lift he said. now assuming quigley uses stock van coils in their conversions, this same spring should give me 1.5-2" lift in a 2wd setup correct?
the spring is MOOG CC880S.
at $95, its rather tempting to try it out.
does anyone have any input? i am just trying to level the front with the rear so it is not sitting so far nose down. i only want to clear 265/75/16"s which it should clear now, i would just like to have a more level van.
and then onto the question of shocks and alignment? since the pivot points are not changing, there should be no increase in wheel travel thus stock shocks should work??
as far as alignment, is my best bet to get the adjustable alignment bushings or just take it to an alignment shop and have them put in the correct fixed bushings? I can do all the install work myself, just dont want to get bent over when paying for an alignment if they need to install new bushings since they charge almost 1hr per side which is nuts.

I installed the CC880 on a e150 5.4 gas. It lifted about 1". I am running 265/70/17 on 0 offset rims and they fit right-ish. I had to cut a little bit the seam and remove the bumper cowling but not bad. No rubbing on hard parts, only a little bit on the mud flap..
I am in the Woodlands and work by the airport in case you want to check it out.
