RGB Electronics is a wholesaler, but does business as AM+PM Technologies on eBay Australia. Francis Li (the owner) is looking for a distributor in the US right now.

He makes some of these panels made to fit the Land Cruiser.

Carlon box

grahamfitter, great use of an inexpenisive,pre-fab box. I purchased one yesteday, and will start the install today in my TJ. A couple of questions:
1) How did you wire the 2 sockets? Is there a dedicated circuit for each? You mention (2) 10g wires (1 pos and 1 neg), but is that for each socket?
2) Did you mount the box permanently to the fender, and if so what was your method?

Thanks in advance.

Also pm'd you.

What kind of 12v socket are you using to power your fridge? I purchased one at Radio Shack, which has been somewhat of a bust. It's not as rigid as I'd like.

I found this beauty online:

So far I can't find it near home (mainland USA). This Australian site has it, though.

I like that it appears to screw (or bolt if you can) down to a surface solidly. Where can I get one like this in the USA? Ideas?

Gracias, amigos.
Mark

check out this web page it might help. You can also go to www.mouser.com. They have some that are nice.

Thanks for the fast replies guys. If I had to pick one of yours to go with . . .

I like Chuck's the best:

:snorkel:

I wish a flush mount would work in my situation. The surface mount is what I've "got" to use.

What I see at AT is nice, but why is it the size of a pool table? I actually think it'll work, though. What's Wil and Wen going to be carrying?

Edit:
Here's a photo of my situation. I need to screw a socket into the wall back there. Flush mount - while cool - is no good. The connection won't be protected on the backside.

Mark,
Could you use a length of coiled wire (similar to a telephone cord) and mount the plug in to the drawer itself?

Hi Ryan,

There are just two wires (one positive and one negative) leading from the battery to the box and they feed both sockets. There's an inline fuse at the battery end. I would like to power some interior lights from the same box and if that happens I'll probably put a fuse in there to protect the wire but nothing more complicated than that.

The box isn't permanently mounted. My original plan was to use the velcro that sticks to carpet but couldn't find any available locally at the time. It does stay put by itself and I haven't been worrying about it but thanks for the reminder!

Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply

Grahamfitter, thanks for replying. Got my outlet box set up. I had the extra circuit so I wired the sockets independently. I also mounted the box w/ 1/4 20 hardware through the tub. There's plenty of space, and access is easy. Thanks again.

Ryan.

I thought I would throw another option into the fray here. It is the option that all the National Luna fridges come with, including the socket. It is what we are calling a Hella Plug and socket. A great deal of copper contact, and they have a light snap in place feel.

Here are a couple photos. We stock them too.

cheers,

I've got these connectors in my rig (though not from Cabela's) and they're not true locking connectors. There's a small detent in the housing of the socket for the plug to fit in, but a mild pull, and it comes disconnected like any other plug.

I have two of these, I use one on my norcold 60 and one on my mt45. True they don't fully lock but they are much better than most autozone plugs. I trust that they won't unplug while wheeling or I would of replaced them by now. I do like the rubber ring on the male end, keeps the weather out. I have them mounted under the rear sliding windows on my 80 series.

These are quite nice, One came mounted in my Bundu Safari trailer and they seem pretty rugged.

Natikonal Luna option

Paul, what's the cost on the National Luna plug/socket option? I checked the website and didn't see price. Also are they available separately? I've got a newer ARB fridge and would like to use their supplied Hella style plug.

Also not to highjack this thread, but I fixed my awning. Thanks for the input Paul.
