1985 Ford van cowboy4x4

Cool idea to put the van body on a newer Excursion.

I think this plan will require much trial fitting and custom work to get the van body over the Excursion engine compartment. But you must know that already!

First thought would be the engine in the van is offset to the pass. side. Not sure if the Excursion has the engine centered or offset. Also being set back further than a van, that could create issue. Will be interesting to see what you come up with. Good luck with the project.

Sounds extremely ambitious. I'll be very interested to see the outcome. I hope it goes well. Retaining both frames sounds like it could be a key way to avoid a lot of the obstacles.

Im tryong to imagine how unbelievably tall and heavy this setup will make the vehicle - adding about 7" of height and an extra frame to end up with stock wheel travel seems ike a waste of time for anything but a street driver.

Interesting project, for sure.

I'm sure you are planning on trimming all the fat off of the van frame, but how much do you anticipate the two-frame approach will add to the weight of the vehicle?

Just curious.

change of plans... this particular van is going to stay my work vehicle, I am going to get a different ford van and make it 4x4.so........ if a moderator reads this you can delete the entire thread. I will start a new one with the new van.
