Thanks. I'm obviously not right, seeing as how I'm spending time squabbling on the internet with other flakey sorts. Probably too late for help.

My next truck will be a diesel electric hybrid. Probably an Edison motors conversion. All electric drivetrains with a small diesel generator. IMO that's the best way to do it and I wish it would catch on.
Ram had an awesome concept with the ramcharger, that kind of range coupled with actual towing capabilities may have changed the game!
They’re still planning to produce it. They cancelled the full EV version and kept the EREV for now.
Slightly higher purchase price? Have you prices the Silverado ICE work truck vs the Silverado EV work truck? You can get one for 40k and the other for 72k. Which is which.Lightning isn't great for the conventional truck market, and Ford was taking losses making it. So MBAs decided to pull the plug instead of figuring out how to optimize production/technology to make it cheaper/better. Sure, there is the whole market sentiment to consider, but EVs are superior to ICE vehicles for majority of use cases. The two things that impact EV sales are the slightly higher purchasing costs (as opposed to ownership) and the fact a lot of people can't charge at home that make EVs less practical for those individuals. None of this is rocket science really.
As for the "resale value" the whole proposition is stupid. Vehicles (except some niche ones like collectibles or supercars) aren't an investment. If you're buying a vehicle, you better be prepared for it having zero resale value, or you risk being very disappointed.
P.S. Searching on Craigslist in Oregon I'm seeing quite a few F150 Lightnings for sale, but just one Cybertruck. It must be because Cybertruck sucks, right ?![]()
Respectfully: define a viable future? 50 years? 25? 10? So the expected lifetime of a brand new generation of ICE vehicles?
An ice vehicle built today typical will last 1o years. Possibly 15. And theres a ton of them.
Agreed with above. The RamCharger would be an ideal solution for me. Except it won't fit in my parking stall along with my motorbike and I'm guessing it will be cost prohibitive compared to a ICE version. If it's a 10K difference, and I think that's being conservative, 10K buys a lot of gas.
If it goes over 600 miles and can truly tow a good sized trailer I'm betting it sells well, I know I'm seriously interested, even at a premium price, but one more necessity for me is off-roadability, at least the mountain/desert roads that my suburban travels.
Why the ridiculous range requirement? My HD diesel can’t go 600 miles, towing or not. Unloaded at reasonable highway speeds I can do about 500 miles and towing a travel trailer or with my camper in the bed I can do about 350.
