Time for some new photos. These are from last weekend testing out the suspension up on Stevens pass.

I hate cold/snow. Its 58* inside my house and we're bundled up with hats and blankets. We're supposed to have our first freeze tonight. Dallas is too far north for me.:rolleyes:

Here - the rear with a swing-out that I need to rebuild.

I have the modification list at home, but a few off the top of my head...
- '88 V6 rear axle
- 4.88s
- SOA, hy-steer, IFS box
- front, rear bumpers and rack were all home-made two owners ago

(this one isn't for sale... ;))

OK I've been doing my research but I still need some help. As far as regearing for 33's where can I find a set 4:88's out of? I have a 1988 22RE with the 4:10's and I need 4:88's to run 33's. I've been researching it and now Im really confused. I read through the Toyota FAQ section on Pirate http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=775780 and I know that there is a major difference in the long pinion versus short pinion. But can I take a V6 3rd member and use it in a 4cyl? Any help you guys have would be great.

I'm not sure you'll be able to track down a stock 3rd with 4.88 gears. Best bet is to purchase them from a vendor and install them on your current carriers.

In my 86 I have a factory 4.88 in the front from a 93 and I regeared a 97 TRD e-locker to match. 4.56 was the lowest gear the e-locker came with from the factory.

My motor has a cam in it and balanced but other wise stock. Does OK with the 33 x12.5's.

Word of warning the lighter the wheel combo the easier it will be to spin. My factory steels with uniroyal 235x 85x15 were only 6lb lighter then the BFG 33x12.5 on aluminum 15x7's. When I wear these out I am going with a 33x10.5 to loose some more weight.


Another REAL important upgrade if you are still running the IFS is replace the rotors and calipers with the set from a 93 v6 with the 31 inch tire option. totally bolt on. Then throw a 1 inch master on it. With that combo I can lock the front 33's on dry pavement. I am still running the stock 86 booster and it has a stiff peddle. A 93 V6 booster is a bolt on as well.
I went through hell finding a reservoir 2 years ago and after it was all said and done this was looking like a really good deal.

Unbolt the proportion valve arm off the back axle and zip tie it all the way up.

Here is some comparison pictures of what stock 86 parts look like compared to stock V6 31 inch tire parts.
