I bought my set from Safari LTD in grand junction. But you can also get them from Kurt (cruiser outfitter) here on the board. I would have bought mine from him but I was under a time crunch when I did my lift, and kurt didn't have them in stock.

As far as the performance of the 4R, it actually isn't bad. I can keep 65 up a slight incline, but when it comes to the mtn passes, I'm racing semi's and VW mini-busses:smiley_drive:. Couple things I have done help my cause, first instead of going 4.88's in the diffs, which is the general practice with 33's, I went ahead and put 5.29's in, and very happy that I did. I saw no reason to worry about loosing a few MPH on the top end when I'll never drive that fast anyways. Also I chose to go with 5.29's, since I do live at altitude (7k') and my trips usually go up from there and I saw the higher ratio doing a better job compensating and helping out my my 4 little hamsters.
Second thing helping my cause, as of summer of '11 I completely rebuilt my motor. I did bore it out a tiny bit, I think like .010 on the head and mains and .020 for the cyl. Basically just enough to make everything nice and straight.

IIRC it sits around 32-3300 at about 65mph. I haven't had time to drive it in quite a while. I know there are some online calculators that will tell you pretty close to. I believe there is one on the 4crawler site.

LaOutback it was a shame to see you sell yours it was in good shape!

I don't think I could sell mine. Even right now I haven't gone anywhere in it since June. I go out start it up once a week drive it and around the property. Every time the thought crosses my mind to sell it, once I hop in and start it, the thought goes away quickly!

I sometimes think about selling mine, especially if I am not using it, but I know I will always regret it. I have fallen victim to the boredom sale before, and I have become wiser with age in some aspects. I have not driven my 84 in over a month and that's sad. However, when I do drive it, and I look back at it in a parking lot in a sea amongst boring econo boxes, grocery getters, or heavy duty haulers, a grin spreads across my face and I perish the thought of ever selling it.

I can admit that I have full regret selling my 1st gen. I look on a daily basis for another one in decent condition for the right price to slowly build.

I can relate. There is just something about these first gen's that stick with you. My cousin first got me hooked with his '85 pickup. He's had some nice cars come and go but I'm pretty sure he'll be buried in his truck.

Baby seat in a 1st gen

Anyone got picks of there baby seat in the rear seat of their first gen? The 3rd gen I picked up isn't really cutting it for me. Think Im gona move back into a 1st gen 4runner.

Might as well post my project dd (destination driver). Rebuilt the top end with a a lce cam and dual row conversion. ome medium suspension. corbeau sport seats. You know.... stuff. Nothing crazy just stuff. May not be the place for it but I wanted to post interior pics to help others. My interior is dirty but show how the seats mount with corbeau brackets.

My 87

image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
Here is my 87. Had it for about 12 years, she's got 250,000 miles on her. Driven her to the tip of Baja, all over the Sierra, Cascades and the Rockies. My favorite as of late is the desert, east Oregon, west Nevada and Death Valley area. Never once has she let me down while on a trip.

Right now she has Downey leafs and Marlin 6" shackles, Downey 26mm torsion bars. 235/85r16 Duratracs. Custom fabricated front and rear bumpers, sliders and exo rack(it's not a cage, just wanted a rack that allows the top off and I didn't want to drill into the body. G52 forward shift transmission (allows room for cup holder) with Marlin turbo clutch conversion.

Future mods,
Ome rear leafs
I have a 4.56 front third member, need a rear with an arb would be nice
Just got a Warn M8000, need to fabricate mount, thinking quick connect
