That sounds great man! Next time I get a day off I'll touch base with you. I'm trying to keep from doing anything or splurging on the truck since I have the money now, it's just down to self control! Hah! Hope to see you soon!

Your truck reminds me of the trucks I saw in Australia. They are big on the flatbed/tray configuration. They call them "utes" down there, and they offer a lot of versatility. You may want to check Australian websites and offroad magazines for ideas. What I loved about the vehicles in Australia was that they were all totally functional and practical. There were no stupid lifts, monster tires, or chrome lady mudflaps. People have snorkels and bullbars because they actually need them there, especially once you get away from the big cities. For many vehicles (HiLux, Landcruiser, Nissan Patrols, etc.) snorkels come standard. Now that's my kind of country.

Also in Auz unless you are some kind of rancher you are much more likely to encounter a "Roo" on the bush roads than a "bull", thus the big bumper guards are commonly called Roo guards. It's no wonder so much cool stuff comes from such a small population country.

I hear ya both, While Ive traveled a little here and there Ive never been to Oz. But I based a lot of my ideas from the Utes south of the big line. The function so far has been great over the factory bed. My truck has diffinatly been configured for utility and function. Steel wheels and a "ute" bed. (and a few other things)
I have further plans for a cover and one more 1640 Pelican case for storage. Its been great so far. I appreciate the positive comments and welcome ideas for event better functional developement of the bed.

Thanks Again :victory:

Nice work on the tray Zolo. Looks good. I like how you've got the tie-down rails along the side, they'll come in handy.

I'd rivet a sheet of allow across the top, to give you a bit of a roof over the tray (unless you need the vertical access for some reason). But that's just me. Any plans for drop-sides on the tray?

Thanks!
Matto :)

hey zolo, any chance you have any drawings of this showing with measurements? im considering something similar for my 08 DCLB. i want to be able to haul my sled around throughout the winter and my quad in the summer. the current bed doesn't allow for either.

Matto, Thanks i appreciate it, and yeah the ties downs are nice for sure. Im considering some trck system for ties downs also.

I am considering both a top, either Alum or other and the possibility of drop-sides. I am just not rushing the design so it will be what I want the first time. I have the platform now so I can build whatever from here.

Scott,
I don't have a drawing. We sorta talked it over and started with a basic box that was 7' by 6'. Then went from there. I used the factory mount locations. We welded some "L" shaped feet out of 1/8 2"x2" to the cross section and bolted it using the 6 factory bolts. Works great.
It holds my KTM with no issue. Has no over hang at all. Id say for a quad it would be great.
With a Sled though depending on what track you have and the ski size I could see it going both ways for working or not working. Its 7' long if that helps. You could go a bit longer but you get into some crazy over hang issues. This length seems to work off road and for carrying stuff. I hope that helps.

I'm guessing it wouldn't be too hard to design an extension for hauling a sled.
Maybe something that hinges up over the deck when not in use and incorporates tail lights when in use.

Next time I'm over at his garage I'll take a couple more photos (full side view) and see if I can get some measurements for overhang, departure angle, etc...
