This would be one of my favourite pics from 2013, not so much what it is or anything (ie. quality or lack there of), but how the pic happened. We were in the outback Australian town of Birdsville (ironic really) at an Aboriginal Dreamtime story place, we'd just finished having a local Aboriginal elder explain to us the meaning of a story from this location and also recalling his life growing up in this area (including attending a corobboree at the very location we were at). Afterwards we went for a walk through the sacred area to look around, and right infront us a flock of hundreds if not a thousand cockatoos descended before us and perched in the surrounding trees. They were spooked not long afterwards and quickly flew off again, but i managed to snap a pic of some of them in a dead tree before they disappeared.

and just to give an idea of what it was like as they flew in, here's a pic of some of the flock.......

Some wonderful images. Particularly like the Goodwood shots.

This thread should be about your favorite image from the year, not even necessarily your best image of the year. I took 15,000+ images in 2013. The Rhino image is the most meaningful to me - it is my favorite, even if the composition, exposure (after sunset) and environment were less than ideal. This image is better, technically, but taken from about 30 meters and from the back seat of a game vehicle- very different experience for the photographer.

I wasn't overly happy with a lot of my images this year but as for favorite, this is it. It's taken at my favorite spot in Algonquin Park, Cloud Lake on the Centennial Ridges trail. It's the first time I've been to that spot in over 10 years. As it was early May and it was part rain/freezing rain and snow that day, I left the Nikon in the car and just used the Iphone. This trail is a good workout, especially as the first big hike of the season and the dog and I were soaked and tired by the time we hit this just past halfway point.

Sorry, but I have to post two. First is with the wife, hanging out together in an ENO hammock while camping in Michigan. The second picture is with what the wife calls my Redheaded Mistress, in front of Brown Fisheries in the Michigan U.P., which has awesome fresh white fish. (If they don't have a good morning catch, they don't open. Cash only.)

This is probably my fav. My two boys and their best buddies who happen to be the kids of one of my oldest mates. So great to see them play together. This was a mid year trip to the Murray River. We actually just got back from a two week beach camping trip with them
