2015/2016 New 3rd gen Tacoma Debut in Detriot

I'm stepping out of the closet to admit I'm a Fast/Furious fan as I dipped my toes in that scene in the 90's. As such, that first version appeals to me more (minus headlights). Both are cool, though, and would love it if they brought back this lightweight, RWD coupe.

But doesn't matter, though. I'm sure we're not getting this in the US.

EDIT: Ok, I want one. Now. 1.6T, 19" rubbers, side mufflers. Only questionable thing is CVT. Give me a 6-sp.

LOL...if they will do the headlights of the tan one with the racey bits of the other. That would be pretty gnar!

I am closet mini low-rider luv-ar.

Gimme a 620 slammed version.

The I4 is the old 2.7 retuned to match a new 6 speed auto. You can't get a MT with the I4 anymore.

The V6 is a new 3.5 running an Atkinson cycle. Not too many details about this yet, but appears to be an all new engine probably a 2GR-xxx where "xxx" is some new suffix. 6 speed auto or manual with this. The 6 speed manual is new, does not carry over the old 6 speed.

Transfer cases are all new. Rear diffs are all new.

OR package now includes Multi-Terrain-Select and Crawl Control - these features already available on FJ and 4runner.

Not sure if this information below is updated from what you have or older... saw an article "5 things you didn't know about the new Tacoma" pop up on the book of faces stating you could get the manual with the 4-banger.. .of course, now I can't find the damn link.

5 Speed manny still available with the 4 banger. At least according to this article.

"You can get a manual transmission with both engines
The 2016 Toyota Tacoma is available with both a 2.7-liter four-cylinder and a new 3.5-liter V-6 engine. Luckily for stickshift truck buyers, both engines keep their shift-it-yourself options, with the four-cylinder offering a five-speed manual and the V-6 offering a six-speed manual, in addition to both engines' optional six-speed automatic transmissions."

Toyota's popular midsize truck has a new look, a new V-6 engine, and an updated interior for 2016. Toyota also added some interesting new equipment and focused on the details in order to set the Tacoma apart from competing trucks like the Chevrolet Colorado and Nissan Frontier. Here are some of the coolest tidbits about the 2016 Toyota Tacoma that are new for this year.

Multi-Terrain Select system
Included on the 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road trim level is a new system meant to optimize this truck for various off-road conditions like mud, sand or loose rocks. Turning a knob in the cabin changes various settings for throttle and brake sensitivity and helps regulate traction for these different types of surfaces. A locking rear differential and a Crawl Control system are also part of the TRD Off-Road package.

You can get a manual transmission with both engines
The 2016 Toyota Tacoma is available with both a 2.7-liter four-cylinder and a new 3.5-liter V-6 engine. Luckily for stickshift truck buyers, both engines keep their shift-it-yourself options, with the four-cylinder offering a five-speed manual and the V-6 offering a six-speed manual, in addition to both engines' optional six-speed automatic transmissions.

Stamped tailgate badge
Instead of a normal “Tacoma” badge on the tailgate, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma has its name directly stamped into the sheetmetal. This cool detail was first shown on the Toyota Tundra and helps create a stronger family resemblance between the two Toyota trucks.

Active safety features
The new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon have upped the standard for technology in midsize trucks, and Toyota is finally bringing the Tacoma into the modern era by offering blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as a new option. Though it still falls short of the Colorado's available forward collision warning, the addition of these two new features is at least a step in the right direction for Toyota's updated truck.

GoPro mount
Every 2016 Toyota Tacoma comes standard with a mount near the rearview mirror that's intended for a GoPro portable camera. We can imagine off-roaders who opt for the trail-ready TRD Off-Road model getting plenty of use out of this feature as a way to easily record various adventures on video.

Yes, so apparently things got confusing in their presentation on Monday. They were talking up the new 6-speed auto on both engines, and a redesigned 6 speed manual for the V6. What got lost in the translation was that apparently the old 5-speed MT will still be available on the 4-banger. Someone did go out of their way to get specific guidance on this from Toyota:

Anyone have any insight on the GoPro mount? The tinfoil hat wearing side of me doesn't really like the idea of GoPro's in every Tacoma on the road. The cynic in me who believes Toyota will fight paying warranty on a vehicle used off road thinks this is nothing but trouble for the consumer ... or possibly Toyota.

Or I'm WAY overthinking this...

Thats nice to hear.

I really like MT only two vehicles I'd really want one today, 4x4 4dr pickup or a sports car. I get to drive Grandpa's SLK350 occasionally and man would I really like that car if it were Manual!! The slap shift set up is nice the newer ones with the stupid paddle shifters on the wheel are just stupid. LOL

If your referring to the red truck in my avatar, I just found the picture on the net. I wish it was mine. But keep drinking. I have a FJC which I have been informed by the "real" cruiser experts that mine is just a toy. Happy Birthday, mine was a few day ago.
And today's my bday so I'll get trashed on you :) as long as I can drive your land cruiser.

Don't have to use it if you don't want to, is my thoughts.

A plus would be recording everyday driving for accident sakes like they do in Russia.

I think the first thing I would do if I broke my new Tacoma Off Road while off road would probably be to delete the YouTube videos of it being jumped or dragged through the Rubicon. "I swear sir, I was just driving along when..."
