2015/2016 New 3rd gen Tacoma Debut in Detriot

So, I didn't want to dig through 67 pages and relive the pain.

What's the black trim piece below the front bumper? Prior gen's didn't have this. Some sort of new reg to meet safety standards? Wonder if it can simply be unbolted.

I think that the trim is absent on the tan truck. The chin spoiler may be in place to improve MPG numbers.

It's for fuel economy. GM vehicles have had them since ~2005. The Colorado/Canyon twins have them, too. The one on my 2008 Silverado got ripped off and I saw a 1-1.5 drop in mpg, so they do make a difference. They're not much for looks, however!

Anyone have any indication on pricing yet? I Imagine the top of the line taco will be around 36k-38k

No, they were asked multiple times by multiple people at the show and said pricing TBD.

People are guessing the MSRP increases shouldn't be too much above normal year to year inflation given the competition from Colorado/Canyon and I saw on another forum a dealer indicated that to someone who asked about pricing. But that's just some dealer, so not really reliable. Probably the larger variation won't be in MSRP but rather how much you will be able to negotiate or not below that given the potentially high demand for the 2016 early on.

Wow, that's quite a drop in MPG. But I could see that thing getting torn off involuntarily on the first outing.

Well that's a good thing then! I'd hate it if they were increasing the price to the T4R level.

Funny some of the Colorado vs Tacoma talk, popped over onto a Colorado forum and entire forum is about new vehicles with major issues with squeaks, rattles and poor build quality... So it's still same old gm!!

Yeah, not clear the GM line has improved any. What I see some old time Toyota owners complaining about is that while GM might not have improved much, perhaps Toyota has gotten less reliable to the point it isn't that much better than GM. (Not my personal opinion, just reporting my impression of what others seem to think).

Too early to tell for GM. It seems like the previous incarnation was a quality disaster and the new incarnation has only just been released and started shipping. In the end for me the Tacoma is just a better fit for my needs regardless so the comparison to the Colorado/Canyon as far as reliability or value goes is completely academic to me.

Pushes air over the vehicle (smoother surface) instead of under it (rough danglely bits), supposedly why the headlights are protruding a little now too, pushes air around the mirrors.

If it gets me + MPG, I'll gladly keep it on! May need a quick release mod, though.

I'd imagine with the continually shrinking world (globalization) that reliability/quality/etc between manufacturers will continue to draw closer together. I still think Toyota is leaps ahead of domestics, but I'd like to see continued improvement from the big 3. I mean, strictly from paper stats and aesthetics, I'd love to buy a Ram or the new 2.7L F-150.

See, I think the opposite is happening domestically. Toyota /used/ to import essentially the same vehicles they sold everywhere and those core vehicles cemented their reputation. Over time they started building them here and now many key models are unique to North America. I can't say a Corolla or Hilux in Japan or Australia or Europe is any good, but what we do get now here seem more problematic and unnecessarily complex. I think it comes down to our regulations and laws, they punish importation with chicken taxes to protect domestic manufacturers and the emissions and safety laws prohibit world vehicles that don't have crumple zones and bumpers that are just bumpers, not energy absorbing stupid-protectors. Some of these things are popping up elsewhere now, but our DOT and EPA have been nitpicking at a college level for decades.
