Very wise words, simple explanation that clearly resumes how I also feel about my vehicles but have, until now, been unable to put them into words.... Hope you don't mind me using that quote to finally explain to the wife how I feel, and that I am not the only "crazy" guy, that throws unrecuperable money on his toys.

I really like that JKE Dock. I may look into one for my Jeep. Got a couple RAM mounts now but I'd be nice to clean up the mounting locations.

Yeah, looking at it every day, it's growing on me more and more. At first I thought it looked a bit "busy" in there, but now it feels like a cockpit where all the things I use most are setup ergonomically exactly where I need them. The dock allows for that functionality without impeding your view out the windshield in any way. Do it....you won't regret it.

Thanks! All I can say is thankfully I am fortunate to have such an understanding wife. After 16 years, she accepted that I "may" have a problem in regards to cars, motorcycles...espresso machines...camera gear....um....
Yeah.
It seems I am incapable of looking at anything as functionally perfect in its original state. I tend to look at chassis design and engine/mechanical specs with terms like "percentage of stress tolerance as stock vs modified" and "what can I do HERE?" :)
In hindsight, it's obvious to me now, that I would have been equally as happy choosing an engineering discipline...

AEV corners are on. These are pretty much just to reinforce the body panels against the Gobi rack which should be here in a week.
As I said on my other build page, I can't even try to tell you how nerve racking it is drilling tons of 25/64th holes into your brand new Jeep, "hoping" that you've center punched them just right...

Why Expedition One bumpers over AEV?

I wanted high clearance corners all around, and a recessed mount for a winch. Also, a forward facing bumper hoop...not the style of AEV's. The E1 rear is low profile and high clearance, while still being full width, and I personally feel their sway away bearing and pin are the most robust of the versions out there. No personal experience here, just checking them out. Welded 1" recovery tabs, the location of the fog lights in the front bumper, the reinforcement of the bumpers on the inside, hi lift jack points...and their willingness to customize their product for me. Nancy and the crew there are extremely friendly, and are really going out of their way to ensure they can make me the altered front bumper I was dreaming up for this build. I'm also looking to have them french in a receiver hitch in the rear, saving me clearance over a factory tow package mount.
That kind of customer based service goes a LONG way with me. I really like their front bumper too....once you cut off the crash bar and use their Rubi skid, you wind up with really high approach and departure angles for the set, and even 37" wheel sets will be able to articulate very well without rubbing with full width bumpers. And their better looking (IMHO)... :)
AEV makes a solid product, and of course, in light of their contract with Mopar, their stuff appears almost like it was a stock piece, but at the end of the day, I'm only going to build out this Jeep once. After letting my '10 go, I got this one with the full intention of building it to what to me, is perfect...not just close. This one is my lifer, and for me, the Expedition One stuff is perfect.
(First photo is pretty much exactly what my intended stance for this will be. 4.5" lift, 37" KM2s, Rock Monster Beadlocks (blk)...no spacers...Third photo with the dog is the one off bumper awaiting powdercoating...)

The Gobi just dropped! Very nice. Both ladders, Expedition one rear bumper and ARB awning brackets too. Special thanks to Tim at Northridge4x4 and Gobi for getting together and making the light bar bracket accommodate the Baja Designs 50" LED Arc series light...it cam out great! Here's a quick pic, but everything is staged and ready to go for assembly in the garage tommorow. More pics then...

Cant wait to see the rack installed. I am thinking this is the rack I want to go with over building one.

Ok...HERE are the good pics. By the way, is there any better feeling than when the delivery truck is pulling up the driveway?
A bit leary of trying to toss the heavy top portion on the painted hardtop by myself, but made it happen. I very much like this Gobi rack....solid as can be and I don't think there'll be any problems at all driving around with the RTT on there...

Very nice looking build Sir.... I had a set of the Hutchisons and loved them ... Only reason I changed is because I changed axles and got a set of Walker Evens with the deal .... Your rig is coming along nicely ..
