2015 Tank Green Rubi "Damma Trucker" Overlander Build...

Busy morning with Rubi-Doo. Finally got around to installing the Spod and Genesis Offroad G Monitor in a RR A-frame pillar. The Spod is being setup to run all the lighting I just ordered up, while the A-pillar will have ARB Air Locker and compressor rockers. All the "stock" switches will be replaced at some point with OTRATTW dual LED options once I switch out the axles (with said lockers) next spring. All told, not too bad for having her just under two weeks, eh? :)

couple of questions -
A) is that the rugged ridge A pillar switch mount?
B) hows the quality?
C) can the Gensis switch fit above the 4 switch cutouts.
D) i am assuming that can fit contour switches

Rlynch, Yes it's a RR A pill switch mount.
The quality itself is good, it isn't sitting perfectly flush on the inside contour against the underside of the stock, upper plastic A pillar housing, but thats pretty minor. I'm a photographer and tend to notice weird anomalies like this...YMMV.
The texture, color and the fitment (other than prev mentioned) is pretty spot on. They must have fixed this for the '12+ remodel version because I'd heard the opposite on color and texture matching the stock components, but this one is fine.
Yes, you "could" mount the switch above the button section, but you'd need to be very careful in the measuring and cutting as there is an internal structure right there for the units support, and to mount a clip to so it can be reinserted into the factory holes...id guess 1"x1.25" space without hitting any of said plastic bracing...But thats just a guestimate. It looked like it would, and I thought about it, but I only needed 3 of the 4 spots for the ARB switches, so used the "extra" for the G Monitor.
Yes on the contour switches. I have the ARB Compressor one already, but waiting to put the air locker ones in at that time...

on your firewall penetration, did you end up re-using the same grommet and modified it to fit the extra wiring? any pics of the final product at the firewall?

Thanks! Um....I can take a pic, but honestly, for right now since I'm going to be feeding the CB wires through there again next wk, I just jammed the grommet back in there around the gmonitor/spod wires...
when all is said and done, I'll cut the grommet halfway...maybe a Lil more, wrap it around all the wires and high temp silicone the hole...

Not thinking completely necessary, but instead of throwing money at shoring up the D44 axles for all the extra weight that'll be added to this rig, I'm just going straight to new, built Dynatrac D44/D60 hybrids...or the 44 with a 60 out back. Since that is happening, I'd need a different locker for the back anyhow (I believe), and the proven performance of the ARB or Eaton air lockers is an "inexpensive" enough option to just do it. I already have the twin on board air comp, and would just need to add a few switches, a manifold and run the hose.

I guess I don't see the point in buying a Rubicon in this case. Maybe it's just from my relatively modest income level, but it seems like a waste of money versus buying a comparable sport and building it. No offense meant.
 
I really like your MORE dual compressor mount. I don't believe that bracket was out yet when I bought my setup, and it makes the dual compressor a viable option for Jeeps IMO. Past installations that I've seen for the ARB dual compressor have been under the passenger seat, and that just doesn't work for my needs Getting that compressor under the hood is a really good use of space and I can appreciate that.

I agree completely too. I wasn't planning on building it this way to do what I'm looking to do. I ordered the Rubi figuring it was already more than capable for my needs...add a small lift, some axle reinforcements, a good rack for a RTT and a little extra under armor and it'd be ideal (again, for me). That was all I initially wanted to do. Then I saw the Expedition One build...

...and before you know it I was thinking in terms like "Need vs Want". The stock axles are probably ok for most of what I'll do, but not once fully loaded without reinforcement. A 2.5-3.5" lift with 33"-35" tires are definitely more than enough as well. But I let my imagination run a bit wild and I'm planning on making this a true dual purpose toy. I don't want to get high centered if I hang around more with the Rock and trails crowd around here, and I have the means to overbuild this....so why not? I've done the same with my other cars and motorcycles...bicycles....
I love my toys...they're not just transportation or a means to an end. They're my hobby and fun to work on and use. So I guess not needed, but wanted.

Boy, oh boy am I ever guilty of that! I bought a CJ7 that had to have a 258 T-5 combo and when I got it I swapped it all out. It's tough to stay with an initial plan when you get on the forums and look at all the eye candy. I've managed to keep my JK build really basic. So far I have good quality front and rear bumpers with tire carrier, a set of Hella 500's upgraded, a Warn winch, EMU lift and an ARB compressor. I will admit that the reason I haven't gone further is all budget, not dreams! I have a ton of bookmarks stored for future mods and purchases. I have enjoyed this build thread, keep it going.

Got any pictures of that front bumper installed? I seen one back on page on but was not sure if that was your Jeep or not.
