2019 Ford Ranger Taking Orders

Don't disagree, but that's not really a comparison. It would be like me comparing a SXS to Class 1 car.

Sure it is...it is all relative was my point. Full-size truck might feel massive to some but small to others. Size difference between the two isn't night and day, splitting hairs really. If a person has trouble putting a 1/2 ton 99% of the places a midsize can go, they have bigger problems than the size of their truck.

As for guys who buy mid-sizes for running trails, how often do they really go? I'll be on trails 3 times this week, maybe 4 if I play my cards right. Of course the trails I am running you can't even fit a SXS down let alone a mid-size truck. It is all relative. Trails I like are about as wide as that license plate on that F-150 in the picture above. :)

I honestly don't think you know what your point is if you are arguing SXS and motos / MTB's relative to full size pickups. Smaller rigs are easier to handle, easier to park and easier to fit between trees. They also fit in garages, like mine. There are several places here in the PNW where you don't have 5" to spare. I've driven a F150, they are not small and I'd never be caught dead in one trying to get in through some of our trails.

Back to regularly scheduled news ABOUT the Ranger.

I've been tracking my mileage by hand over the last couple fillups and right at about 19.2 mpg, dash says 20.1. Mixed driving, 75% highway, some up into the hills with dirtbike in back, the other 25% is stop and go and city.

I much prefer the ride with 400 lbs of gear in the back....which aligns with many reviewers, it's a bit harsh empty.

I really like the powerband of the engine, never hunts and hills with moto gear it cruises up 2-3k RPM and plenty to accelerate.

Clutch and others - please stick to the Ranger topic. Don't derail it into a full size comparison.

Thanks

Bummer about the milage, was hoping for at least mid 20's or a little more. Even with all the engineering wizardry, gassers are about at their limits for fuel efficiency. Maybe if Ford drops a diesel in, it will break 30.

Have you towed anything with it yet, and does the milage take a nose dive like other turbo gassers in Ford's line-up that shall not be named. Would imagine it tows quite fine though. Power numbers seem about right for that size of truck. Not too much not too little.

Starting to see a few running around here, nice looking truck. Though I think I prefer the size of the previous gen. An old girlfriend of mine had a regular cab, man! the out of the way places you could get that thing into, don't think we could do the same with the new one.

I'm really happy with the mixed driving mileage, not sure what you had expected, but mid 20's is out of the question. It's much better than my old Tacoma and pulls hills a lot better. I have not done a 100% hwy slog yet, but trip comp says 25.4 at 70, which based on my measurements is overstated like all of them, factoring in the error I've calculated, its 23-24 mpg, which of course would need to be verified.

I have no interest in a mid-size diesel personally, you may save at the pump, but big picture, it's not a savings IME.

Edit - re: size of the previous ranger and getting places, the previous gen Ranger and the current Ranger are more similar in size than the current Ranger and a F150...:)

Buddy of mine was on the launch team, said he felt like the 2.3L was an absolute dog. What has everyone else's experience been?

Depends on what your are comparing it too I'd guess, but in no way would I agree with your buddy. It honestly drives more like my VW TDI, lots of smooth low end torque vs initial get up and go, if that makes sense. Keeps me happy and I'm coming off a new Audi SQ5.

People said that about the 6.2 as well. And it dyno's in at 400hp with just a minor tune.

Some people just can't drive. ''What's the minus button on the shifter for?.....''

I would expect the Ranger MPG observations will get better as warmer temperatures arrive, along with summer gas, and the engines get broken in. A lot of the newer engines have such low internal friction, they run quite rich to get things up to temp.

I’ve seen two or three articles at this point regarding the ranger in Outside Magazine. Anyone else noticed this? I wonder what Outside is making by publishing just complementary articles. I mean one was titled something about exploring New England and was written under the guise of talking about how great Boston was...with pictures of rangers everywhere and how it was the perfect New England truck. Even had a video full of rangers.

I'd be happy with 250hp/300tq.

If you want some Hennessay stuff, I've got their entire setup dissolved into nanites. You can just pour them into the tank. Send me $2200, and I'll download them to the gas station fuel pump of your choice, ready for ya'll to pump in.

I've had mine off-road.

Thanks to Rough Country, I have a 2.5-inch leveling kit to go on it this week:

Ford has sent me the Yakima Tent and rack. I'm hoping it will get here before I leave for the Overland Expo. I'm also hoping to see other Rangers there.

If anyone is interested, check out:

I'm planning on the Overland Expo in May, and then hitting the Trans America Trail (TAT) in June. I'm really hoping that someone will release a winch bumper or grill guard / winch mount before then.

I've driven Rangers, F-150's, and F-350's. This Ranger is much different than the old Ranger, and not that much bigger. Definitely smaller than a fullsize. It's an impressive truck.

If only it still had TTB.......
