I've had mine off-road.

Thanks to Rough Country, I have a 2.5-inch leveling kit to go on it this week:

Ford has sent me the Yakima Tent and rack. I'm hoping it will get here before I leave for the Overland Expo. I'm also hoping to see other Rangers there.

If anyone is interested, check out:

I'm planning on the Overland Expo in May, and then hitting the Trans America Trail (TAT) in June. I'm really hoping that someone will release a winch bumper or grill guard / winch mount before then.

I've driven Rangers, F-150's, and F-350's. This Ranger is much different than the old Ranger, and not that much bigger. Definitely smaller than a fullsize. It's an impressive truck.

If only it still had TTB.......
Nice Jim - looks good! Make sure you post ASAP. Assume you using stock rims? I had considered 255/75R17, which is 32.1 x 10, but was going to wait until the OME lift was out, which seems to be in the next couple months according to ARB. With that said, those 265's are a great moderate size, ran the same size for years on 16" rims (265/75 R16).

Skid plate?

I almost did the 255's, but the width were a little narrower than the stock tire, and I don't like how close the face of the rim sits to the sidewall of the tire, so I went with the 265/70's for a little wider tire.

I’ve seen two or three articles at this point regarding the ranger in Outside Magazine. Anyone else noticed this? I wonder what Outside is making by publishing just complementary articles. I mean one was titled something about exploring New England and was written under the guise of talking about how great Boston was...with pictures of rangers everywhere and how it was the perfect New England truck. Even had a video full of rangers.

Magazines will often run nice stories for advertisers. Ford has, or will be, running an ad campaign with Outside would be my guess. The off-road bronco line and ranger seem like a the same demographics as Outside. It’s kind of like when a magazines does a ranking, it’s really just a ranking of who spends the most money with them.

motortrend is still in biz? Wow.
apparently so. poor ranger xlt 4x4 was last getting crushed by the freaking zr1 and the ridgeline and alas the Gladiator. I know those car editors, they know their stuff no doubt about it. I had one tell me a while back that Subaru was the ultimate offroad vehicle.

My concern was clearance with the Spindle, I was hoping for a bit more with the narrower tire so I have the option of running chains.

There's only 3/8" to 1/2" gap between the stock tire and the steering knuckle. Not a lot of room between the tire and the front crash bar with the wheels turned either.

Yeah - well aware of that too. There are aftermarket crash bars that offer more clearance that will (hopefully) be available shortly. I guess you can also get another 1/2" clearance by unbolting and pushing the crash bar forward a bit.

Took delivery of mine yesterday. Have the Icon kit on order, hopefully it will be ready in a few weeks. Look forward to seeing how it drives offroad with a little better suspension and 33". My friend who works for Ford says the 350hp tune is awesome in the Ranger. That should off-set the power lost from going to 33 inch tires.
