2020 Ford Transit AWD

I think its the identical system in the 2020 Explorer/Aviator

That's what we heard initially and it makes total sense. Then an insider said it's not, at all. So I don't know what to believe. maybe just the transmission/t-case is the same, suspension is different.

Here is a potentially worrisome tidbit
The AWD Transits get the HD front axle.
These are the wheels that come with the HD front axle. 970163BB-5819-47B8-B6BC-949886C2AEE3.png
They look suspiciously like the DRW wheels here

So instead of adding wider hubs on the front a’la e series 2wd. They use the same AWD axle on both and just use single dully wheels on all four in a SRW application.
I don’t think we will see aftermarket wheels for these any time soon.

I wonder if aftermarket DRW wheels would work? lots of those. maybe we will see these AWD transits running around with 19.5" monsters under them

Highlander

The Strong, Silent Type
I have found these images showing the Australian / Euro version of the Tranist AWD system.
This one is coupled with a manual gearbox, but the TC is basically integrated into it. At least that is how I interpret it.

However,
The other pictures posted in this thread are showing somewhat different TC and configuration.

In this case the TC is attached rather integrated into the transmission. In theory, one can come up with some sort of low range gear kit /TC which would replace the factory one.
Ford is oddly quite about which one are getting here. I hope the second system is designed for the 2020 models.

btw, Today I gonna test drive a cargo transit with ecoboost. Although I have not decided between 130" M/R vs 148" M/R.
What would you suggest?

I guess y'all haven't see this post... Pictures of the AWD system that will be used in the US version 2020 Transit. The Euro design is nothing like this

@Highlander they are also on pages 3-4 in this thread.

I placed my order.
2020 148" Mid roof AWD Cargo, ecoboost, Magnetic, managed to keep it under a $50K MSRP, now bring on those rebates!
I can post my build if interested.

Anyone want to buy an e-series 4x4?

Yes I would love to see the details too.

Can you apply any rebate after you custom order it?

There are a couple things I was on the fence about.
I struggled with the color a bit, wanted the new diffused silver but it looks gold/brown, champagne in released pics and I wasn't digging it.
Part of me wishes I would have got leather seats (+$170)
The larger fuel tank was (+$285)
I tried to stay away from a van full of electronic doodads.
Things like blind spot detection are $695.... front/rear split camera $1135 (has rear view as standard), it adds up fast. I do like the reverse sense though.
no dual batteries, planning to add house batteries....

Plan is to upfit/convert to camper right away.

Thanks Brian.

Isn't there an option for swivel seats also? Did you look into that?

I was happy to see 3.73s available with the ecoboost. I couldn't get that configuration selected in a 19.

Thanks Brian.

I did look into it, "on the 2020 cargo van, the 4 way seats with manual swivel for driver & passenger is $1385 MSRP (21T). Those same seats in the 2-way manual driver/passenger is $115 MSRP (21C). That would seem to show adding the swivels would cost $1270 for BOTH seats. That would make the aftermarket ones a lot cheaper and in some cases it may be the same parts with Ford markup."
Also, swivels require dual AGM batteries $295, and push down parking brake $195

I might only put a swivel on the passenger side and adding aftermarket is way cheaper based on the options I chose.
If I go with one on the drivers side I will be looking into adding an electric parking brake. People have done it and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a "kit" available soon.
If you are the least bit interested in one of these, I would get your hands on an order guide and options price list, get on the options merry-go-round as soon as possible it may help dictate your purchase.
