2nd Gen Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 Cummins / The “Puller” Project

Decided to go for a quick overnight up the mountain. Was excellent. Next week I will replacing the output shaft and slip yoke on the transfer case. Also I have a new starter going in, mine has been intermittent. Ill post on that next week.

Love this camper And of course the truck. what Carli spring you get? I watched the video a while ago but forget. It’s the hemi spring right? Gettin stoked to put mine on soon. finish the stone guards For rear shock? I have 2.5 w remote res in my rears and the fit the “normal“ orientation. But maybe thats w the remote res vs mounted res.

Thanks! The truck is a work in progress, but getting there.

I went with the full Carli Pintop 2.5 setup from CJC Off-road. This came with Carlis 3” multi rate coils.

I have not finished the bash guards for the rear shocks yet. I hav done done, but I need to still make the passenger side one. I had some family come into town, so will probably be another week before I instal those. Ill post some pics of them when completed here ASAP.

Thanks for the comment about your rear shocks mounting up normally ? - I might take another try at mine and see if I can flip them. Maybe I rushed the first attempt and missed something.

Found time today to finish the passenger side shock bash guard and install them both. I think they turned out great. 1/4” steel so it can take a hit ?

Well, my starter has been a little ”inconsistent“ recently. I wanted to find a replacement Denso starter, but after shopping around I found and XDP HD starter for about $50 less. Looked around and didn’t see a ton of reviews, figured I’d give this starter a try. I slapped it in this morning and works great. Anyone have any longer term experience with these starters vs Denso ?

I know when I had my Cummins, you could buy heavy duty contacts for the Denso starter, which was typically the point of failure. I bought a set but never ended up needing to fix anything.

My concern is the lift. I still want to fit into a standard height garage. My truck currently has a 2" lift. And with the my camper shell and current rack setup - i don't have much room to spare.

Ignoring your lift gained from changing rims and tires - how much did your truck get lifted?

Ok three updates.

1) Finally got around to installing new head light housings and converting over to LED lights. MASSIVE difference. Should have don’t that a long time ago.

2) Here is the last picture of the truck before it gets ALL of the carli suspension, wheels and tires, and other extras installed on the 12th.

What headlight bulbs and housings did you use?

I used the TourchBeam T2’s:

During my trip we were camping in a private forest area. We had one other friend with us. I got up in the middle of the night to take a leak (pee bottle in the camper) and thought I saw our friend outside the Hiatus doing the same thing (he has a roof top tent). I thought I saw him about 20ft from our camper in the moon light. I then noticed he was wearing a hat….I thought that was odd…I looked again and notice IT WASN’T HIM! IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE! A STRANGER IN OUR CAMP AT 1AM!

I am freaked out, but I cant see that well - it was dark. The only thing I could think of was to hit my panic key on my truck alarm to make some noise and lights to scare the random crazy dude away, and also alert my buddy in the roof top tent that something is going on.

I grab my keys and a about to sound the alarm when I take one more look at this “person” in our camp………IT WAS A PINE TREE !!!

SO, it was a false alarm. BUT it did teach me I need some “panic lights.” So system to totally flood the area with lights that I can activate from the inside of the camper and see everything possible from out the window from the inside of the Hiatus..….drilling, welding, bending, and wiring began!
