I am back from alaska, what a wonderful part of north america, but the surprise for me was how awesome the yukon was.

So i got my holset, whoa she is big, pics to come, but i did notice some 4m50 had a factory td06

Left is a holset HY35 which is considered the baby cummins 5.9 turbo that everyone upgrades, right is the stock td04-15 spare I had

That's a very significant difference in size. Aren't you concerned that this will give you some serious turbo lag?

What are you going to do with the manifold. After reading Alan's build it seems that the manifold is the big restriction in the system. Time for a kinugawa or build your own?

I am not to concerned about spool, they seem to spool decent on 4bt which is a 3.9l.

I am going to wait and see what flange is on the 4m50t2. I fear making my own manifold due to cracking and warping.

It'll be a interesting adventure but not married to this turbo yet.

I did find a 4m50 that runs a td06 do that manifold could be interesting as well

IIRC, the HX35 and HY35 were available on the 5.9 B series Cummins, while the HX40 came on the much larger 8.3L C Series. I am not sure what turbo came on a 4BT from the factory, but I would expect that an HX35 would be a bit laggy on a 3.9L motor that has not been fiddled with (higher RPM, larger injectors to compensate for additional air flow, ECM programming, if required, etc)

I am interested to see what you come up with on this. I helped a mate of mine move houses over the weekend and found out that he has two 12 valve 5.9 blocks, two 47RH transmissions and a 271 transfer case. Hmmmm, that sure would solve the 4M50 power and tuning problems :)

With the 4M50 being 4.9L, maybe it is close enough to the B Series to work out. Something in the 250 BHP and 450 TQ range would be excellent for these trucks IMO.

Ok, sad day, gave up on the holset, it dimensionally was too big to fit.

On to building a turbo now, decided its best to stay in the mitsu turbo world.

I am looking at building a td05h-18g 8cm

Sounds like it could be a far less complex solution - simpler is often better!
