That is the frustrating thing, Ursidae69.

We see all this money being thrown around from both sides. There is plenty of money for law enforcement and education, and yet....

Wouldn't the money be better spent on those type of jobs? Especially with the state of the economy. We "could" really help out our fellow man and the environment.

I love the outdoors, I love exploring via different modes of transportation from boots, hooves, to wheels. Most of us aren't out there to destroy it, rather to take it all in. I see far more damage from housing tracts than old dirt roads and trails.

I certainly see more destruction with housing tracts as well, spending half my life in Phoenix, it is disturbing, but that is a whole other land use debate. You could say the same thing for mining or other extractive activities, but those activities benefit all of us and are necessary (to some degree). I'm talking to you about the tragedy of the commons which are the federal lands owned by all of us and under law are mandated to be ran using multiple use principles. I see stories by Robert Yates about his land troubles and I agree with him that he is getting screwed, same with to some extent how much land is on the table as possible wilderness in Utah, but at the end of the day these things are all symptons of the bigger problem of how we are unsustainably managing our public lands. It's not just OHVs, the cattle ranchers have a huge part of the blame for overgrazing the ranges the last 100 years too. There is no easy answer, but like I've said before in this thread and others throughout the past 5 years on this site, I'll always err on the side of protecting the land. I am fine with that.

The other side makes the same argument. Funny how that works.

No, actually they do not make the same argument.
Having a wee-bit of experience with the Preservation/Conservation cults there exists a subtle yet profound difference.

The P/C operations will "CLOSE" every square inch of ground water and sky that they possibly can to merchandised or equestrian access, and further many will then push to close everything to all human access.

The other-side in my experience is fighting for true multi-use and appropriate access for all.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for your opinion. I'll stay out of these threads from now on and you all can rant all you want. :coffee:

LOL!

I wonder what your reaction would have been had I actually typed out a "rant" rather then a statement of "my opinion", based on "my" experience both inside and outside the P/C Movement...:coffee:

Could you cite some examples? I am especially interested in hearing about preservation groups that have somehow closed FEDERAL lands for merchandising purposes. It would also be useful to know of a group that has closed FEDERAL land to all human access.

I have weighed my reply to your request for several hours.
I will not address the issues you raise which are not within the scope of my opinion statement.

Dude, that's harsh. I thought we weren't going to fling mud here anymore :sombrero:

When I was searching for the image that is how that particular character was described! :bike_rider: Then I found the German site where you could generate a custom South Park image. Waaay too much fun!

???
Couldn't find a good example huh?

Read for comprehension much?
Frankly, I expected better.
If you would like to engage in a conversation, I am sure that we can find common ground. However, I refuse to take a position that is entirely of your construct. Please if you are attempting to bait a response do so at above the elementary school level.
I am disappointed!

I fear for the future of land conservation/access when conversation on the subject, on this polite informed forum, becomes bogs down with petty arguments, unsubstantiated statements, insults, and posturing.

I realize this is a subject we are all passionate about, the discussion needs to be less anecdotal, much more clear cut, backed up by facts, and less on a personal level.

In case you hadn't seen, we partnered with United Four Wheel Drive Associations with the focus of helping to build the infrastructure for better education within the community on responsible land use and subsequently, conserving the lands we enjoy so much.

If you haven't seen the release, you can view it here:

And I agree with Martyn.
