That is the frustrating thing, Ursidae69.
We see all this money being thrown around from both sides. There is plenty of money for law enforcement and education, and yet....
Wouldn't the money be better spent on those type of jobs? Especially with the state of the economy. We "could" really help out our fellow man and the environment.
I love the outdoors, I love exploring via different modes of transportation from boots, hooves, to wheels. Most of us aren't out there to destroy it, rather to take it all in. I see far more damage from housing tracts than old dirt roads and trails.
I certainly see more destruction with housing tracts as well, spending half my life in Phoenix, it is disturbing, but that is a whole other land use debate. You could say the same thing for mining or other extractive activities, but those activities benefit all of us and are necessary (to some degree). I'm talking to you about the tragedy of the commons which are the federal lands owned by all of us and under law are mandated to be ran using multiple use principles. I see stories by Robert Yates about his land troubles and I agree with him that he is getting screwed, same with to some extent how much land is on the table as possible wilderness in Utah, but at the end of the day these things are all symptons of the bigger problem of how we are unsustainably managing our public lands. It's not just OHVs, the cattle ranchers have a huge part of the blame for overgrazing the ranges the last 100 years too. There is no easy answer, but like I've said before in this thread and others throughout the past 5 years on this site, I'll always err on the side of protecting the land. I am fine with that.
