5spd white NATO 1995 Disco

A 5 speed, ExPo white! Not another Discovery to tempt me! Zooropa, you are the devil incarnate.

The vehicle is for sale by Rover Classic, a dealer in NYC. The web page for this vehicle is http://www.roverclassic.com/landroverpictures.asp?id=6

I checked Carfax. The Disco has had two owners. The car was registered in North Carolina and Florida for a few years, then moved to upstate NY in 2001. I wrote to the eBay seller asking for a description of the rust present on the body and frame.

edit: the seller replied, "Normal rust for a northeast vehicle of this age." Uh ohhh...

Carfax reports a collision involving the front of the vehicle in 1997, at about 35,000 miles. The photos show the front bumper is tweaked on the left side, but this may be a more recent parking lot incident.

Carfax has only a few entries for routine maintenance, none at a Land Rover dealer. So it would be nice to see some service documentation.

I received a follow-up email from the seller. He states that the
body shows no rust, and that the chassis has some surface rust.
The seller repeated that the rust was no big deal, nothing to be
concerned about.

The eBay auction will continue until 14 July, or until the seller
gets a $4000 buy it now bid.

the rust is always nothing to be worried about when you ask a seller about it. So it has some mildly expensive wheels... doesn't seem special in any other way. [sentence deleted]

how do you "nicely" warn someone not to overpay for a vehicle that may not know any different?

Why do you say overpay? If it is nice, then 4k is not out of line for a dealer sale. Sure, you see 1995 DIs go for 2k most of the time, but a 5-speed in nice shape that is not completely out of line.

It is all how much it is worth to the buyer. I paid $6500 for mine a year ago, though it had 70,000 miles and is cosmetically (nearly) perfect. I would have paid $1-2,000 MORE for it. It is just rare to find these pinnacle truck clean.

remember the rules of this section:

Seems to me like there should be some leeway in comments about random ebay, etc, ads someone points to, vs someone actually posting an item for sale. Obviously no one who's posted in this thread is affiliated with the dealer.

If there's really no rust, maybe not. But having lived in the NE for a good while, I'd be very surprised if it's really rust free.
