The 5 speed does feel more powerful in the 03s even though there aren't any more ponies.
I have a 99 with 315s and stock gears and I just sold my 94 with 315s and 4.56s. Towing the 100 kicks the 80s tail hands down. There is really no comparision.
If you are going to do serious off roading with big rocks the 80 wins hands down. If you want to drive 80mph down a gravel road the 100 is your better bet.
Define your off road needs and then build your rig accordingly.
I'm actually thinking of selling my 100 already, it has only been 5 months. I'm building another Cruiser and I want even more towing power than the 100. My towing needs changed just recently with addition of the project Cruiser. If I do, it will be the most expensive Cruiser I will have ever owned as the prices have dropped significantly in the last 6 months to the point where I will lose big time. And I will miss it as it the finest road trip vehicle we have ever owned.
