A little bit of work for the weekend.

Welded a grease fitting protector on the lower bearing plate. Left the old kingpins and replaced everything else.

Had some fun with a froze ujoint

Had to compare the 10 bolt axles to the 60's

Then I had to take a break for the weather

Also had to go play this weekend. Did some hiking with the boys and dogs.

Nice! I'm eye-balling an '86 GMC 2500 'Burb with the 6.2, but it's priced a litte too high at $3K.

I pick this one up with a bad tranny for $800. 3K would be a little hard to fork out.

So i cleaneed up the hubs and drilled them out for a bit bigger and longer stud. Next I think I'll pull the rotors off bead blast the hubs, paint them, put new races in. I was going to use the old races and bearings but after I cleaned them up only one looks good enough to reuse, so I might as well do them all.


Last night I got this:

A little oil and it works like new.:wings:

So got some more done. Blasted and painted orange for the hubs. Wheel studs work out nice.


Pulled the forged parts I need off the jack I found cleaned them up and painted them too. They will be going on my good jack to replace the stamped steel pieces.


Got some springs. These are from a S10 Blazer 52" offset 24 1/2 x 27 1/2. Should be able to move the axle forward and keep the rear shackle hanger in place. We will see.

So I am in need of shocks as I go about this axle swap. Which I hope will start back up in a week or two, as the plant's, where I work at, outage draws to a close. I am thinking Bilstien 7100 without the remote reservoir, 14" in the front and 12" in the rear. Any opinions and thoughts welcome.

So got some time to dig into the baconator again.
Cut off the perches on the 70hd:

Pulled the fuel tank and installed the shackle flip:


The 70hd axle is the longer one 14 bolt is the shorter. Pretty comparable.

Used rachet straps slinging the axle to the frame on each side (tank's idea) to lift, center, and set the angle for the new perches. Welded them in place and bolted the axle in.

Had to see what it will look like once the H1 wheels and tires are on.



I still need to replace all the rear bushings, get the disc brakes mounted, finish my home built shackles, weld on the shock mounts, and measure for the driveline which needs cut down shorter. Then the front will begin.
