The US shift is veru easy to understand compared to the TCI. It worked just like it was but the changes I made were seat of the pants feel, I changed the 1st gear auto shift, it was set at 2200 Rpm and I moved it to 5500 so when I pull the shifter to 1st it will say there and shift on it's own. The other changes I made were the up shift and down shift points, so while driving under normal conditions is shifts where I want it to shift. So it shifts to 2nd at about 15 Mph under light throttle or 35 under heavy throttle, and so on for each gear. I also firmed up all the up shift points by changing the line pressure. It bumps into gear just right now, and I also will drop the Torque converter lock up down to 35 mph and 3rd gear as the min gear it will lock in. Lost of other things to mess with, but for now just doing basic stuff.

Ha ha what a sucker!!!!

So took Subzila to work today and on the way home caught a red light so sitting there messing with my phone and notice a new model Chevy pick up with the fender flares and a lift, looked really nice. Well on the other side of this light his lane ends and merges into my lane, he was not creeping or doing anything so continued to mess with my phone. Well the light turns green and easy away as usual saving gas, but home boy n stands on about halfway through the intersection and now has a 1 car lead on me. Well as soon as I heard his exhaust over mine it got my attention so I did a quick look and saw no cops so to the floor the gas pedal went. Oh those massive secondaries on the qjet sure can growl when they get slapped open, I'm not sure if it was the burban accelerating faster or it was starting to pull him back from the rush of air being drawn into the air cleaner but that 1 car lead dropped to 1/2 a car as we passed under the lights on the other side of the intersection. I was eating his lunch like nothing, pulled even with him and gave a thumbs up as I went by, not sure if he saw it cause I was going buy faster and fater. He was closing in on the merge lane so I hugged the eft hand of the lane to make sure he knew he had plenty of room to stay in it, which he did but to no avail he was rapidly dropping behind me when I looked down and saw I was in tripple digits as I let off and he was well behind 10 car lengths or more. Was fun to put the spank on some a hole who thought he was gonna just power ahead and get my lane, bet he was suprised as hell when my old 86 burbank walked off and left him especially since he got a serious jump in the race that only he knew was gonna happen.

so yeah Subzila did me proud and I bet that guy understands why my plate says Subzila! !

Cool! Got to love big blocks. There is something to be said for low RPM off idle instant power over the wind up high RPM spinners in modern trucks.

Now that I have had to drive Subzila since the bike is out of commision I got to get enough miles to check MPG's, and with the addition of the 4L80E I got 10.06 MPG. That is a mix of around town, interstate, and three pulls on the chassis dyno, so not to bad I think considering I am running 37" tires.

That is great mileage for huge rig on 37” with a nasty big block fueled by toilet carburetor. Fuel injection probably wouldn’t even help with enough mileage gain to ever be worth the upgrade. If you can stand the habits of carburetors I’d say you have her pretty well dialed in. In this part of the country where can go from 5,000 ft to 12,000 feet in a few hours fuel injection is the only way to go.

Well that was the whole point in going with the Q-jet, cheaper than fuel injection and I live at almost sea level, so if I take it easy it will sip the gas with the dinky little primarys, but if I stomp on it those massive toilet bowl secondaries will gush the fuel in. I think way down the road I will go with some sort of TPI or MPFI set up so I can have remote start and be able to travel anywhere with out the elevation issues, but for now I am happy with how it does.

lol if you really wanted fuel mileage you woukd have bought a 4 banger

Funny you mention that, Subzila was never intended to be a full time rig for obvious reasons and the wife is really harping on me now about using a bike as a daily commuter espically during deer season. So I came up with a good compromise and win win for me, I will take the insurance check off the bike and buy an old VW Bug and give it the Baja treatment and use it as a daily driver, then slowly repair the Goldwing over the next year or so as extra money comes in and just ride it on weekends or really nice days. My wife was very pleased with this option, and I think she knows I will spend too much on the bug and and it prolly wont be great on gas either but she sees it as safer.

Now I had a baja bug when I was young and broke all the time but loved it, now that I got some budget to actually work with I am gonna have some serious fun and this will be "BUGZILA" and not just a weak little put put bug, I just cant help myself, already have a deer deflecting double tube front bumper design in mind!! But yaeh it will still be a 4 banger:smiley_drive:

One more small issue on the new trans, I cant seem to get the line pressure in the sweet spot. Well mainly it's because of my dang POS laptop, I can't hook it up and play around with it while I drive around because the battery only lasts about 5 min. Right now the shift firmness is perfect for the 2-3 upshift, but 1-2 is a little hard and 3-4 jars your teeth! Not really a problem unless your a ujoint:Wow1: Gotta call tech support and make sure which direction to move the line pressure bar on the graph table, but other than that it has been great. I like watching the gear indicator and it shows when the converter locks up, I can feel all of it but still fun to see for now. Also is shows speed and it dead on accurate with the speedo and gps, all I had to do was plug it into the TSS at the back of the trans then input I have 4.11 gears and the diameter of my tires as 35.5 (measured with a level on top of the tire and a tape measure to get actual height), and bing it works perfect. I did call before about 4x4 settings since it does not show up on my screen, they told me GM does not need it because it gets the speed afterall internals at the output shaft, so even when in 4x4 it will still read the real speed?? Not sure about that but ok, will just have to test it and see.

The temp sensor seems to run about 20-30 degrees hotter than the autometer gauge which picks up right out of the pan, I am guessing the computer is getting it's temp from up inside off a pressure port or line so it is hotter. I was freaking out at first because it got up to 210 degrees but the dash gauge was not reading at all, it was reading the sensor that was after the radiator but before the aux cooler, and it was in the 50's so not sure if it was just cooling it off enough not to read or that sensor went bad?? I went to the front of the truck and booth lines at the aux cooler were cold right after I shut the truck off and the aux filter was ice cold? Popped the hood and only the pressure line going into the radiator was warm the out line was cold too, so I was thinking maybe fluid is not flowing. Not sure how that could be possible after drining 40 miles with no issue and doing three dyno pulls then driving 40 miles home, if it was not pushing fluid back to the pan I would there would be some sort if issue and the temp would have bee way over 210.

Anyway I took the aux filter off and started the truck and holy hell it pumps some fluid out for sure, who ever it was talking about only pumping 1 quart a min was off a bit, about 3 quarts came out in the 10 seconds I had the engine running. So put the filter back on cranked it up added 3 quarts back to the system and checked it a few times, cycled it through the gears and checked it again and the level was good. Go look at the Brain box and it says 205 degrees, gauge still says nada but now the filter is luke warm on the very top of it, both lines are warm itno and out of the radiator in line more so, but the return line to the pan is still cold up on the fender well??

Well I moved the pickup for the gauge to the sensor in the pan and now it reads, and is still about 20-30 degrees lower than the brain shows, the most I have seen at the brain is 205, and the pan got to about 170, and even at that when I stopped in the driveway and went to the front, the filter is still cold and the lines are cold only the input to the radiator is warm. I can only guess that my cooling system is bad *** due to the cold weather, I drive 38 miles to work running about 60 for most of the way, the braind reads 178- 193 and gauge is around 150 when I park the truck at work, I guess all is fine for now but just have a weird feeling about it.

Oh and dang if the water temp has not been higher the last two days, been at 190 when usually its right over 180. Of course it is much colder and notice my A/F meter is running dead on 14 when it is usually at 12.5-13 so it is running leaner, prolly just beacuse of the colder denser air I guess, not a big concern just not the norm.

Hmmm, I dont think air in the line would make a difference since it is a vented open system basicly, no way for it to build pressure on one side that would equal the in coming pressure to stop the flow. Anyway blah blah blah, what I do think could be an issue is I may have put the lines on the wrong ports to the aux filter!! I think I put the in line to the center of the filter and the out line on the outer portion....in fact I am sure I did now that is what I saw when I looked under while the filter was off, a big stream pouring out the center of the filter housing flange. It should have been coming out of the 10 or so small holes around the edge, but even then it should still work, oil is goin in and coming out, it might not get filtered if enough pressure was coming down the center of the filter it would just open the bypass valve and go right out the small holes instead of through the filter....

Hmmm still not sure there is an issue but gonna double check it and swap the lines to make sure it flows through the filter the correct direction, at least that would explain why the filter only got warm on the top, it was flowing hot down the inside center of the filter and popping the bypass valve and flowing out the top side I guess??

Just read this thread front to back and must say I admire your dedication and attention to detail. Your engine/trans problems remind me a little about the rx7 guys trying to get good numbers from their rotaries and then just throwing in the towel and going with a v8 after a few blown motors.
