Time to pass this cool truck on to someone who has a passion for the Montero/Pajero and has some project time to keep it going. It is running well, but things will come up. I’ve always enjoyed tinkering with this truck, but I’m moving on to something built in this century. Has a rough idle on start up that may need looking into. The Mitsubishi and Pajero forums are great resources. I’d sell this to a friend and pitch in if it needed some TLC after the sale. It will require you to work on it at some point, but you will look cool AF crusing around tanning your left arm with the window down. And vent windows!!
I bought this truck in 2002 from the 2nd owner in Minnesota. Since then it has been the familycamping OVERLANDING rig and has been all over CO and UT. Cosmetically it is a Honey Badger and it makes for a worry free experience not having to care about keeping up appearances. The PO replaced the motor with a 50k motor at 150,000. Timing belt and water pump were replaced at that time. "That Time" was 20 years ago.
The Bad
Upcoming peace of mind maintenance
RTT and awning pics for inspiration and are not included. You should definitely get that stuff.
Sale includes a sack of parts, chilton manual, and pump for oil changes and records of vehicle maintenance.

The Bad
- The vehicle came from Minnesota and had #alltherust. It hasn’t gotten much worse in the time I have owned it.
- Faded paint
- Oil pan leak and frozen drain bolt. The leak will leave a mark in your driveway. The drain bolt is inconvenient. I use a pump to drain the pan when I change the oil. I've been searching for a new oil pan for a couple of years and nothting has come up. YMMV
- Rear passenger door does not open from outside. Should be an easy fix.
- Has never left us stranded
- Extremely capable 4x4 vehicle. Rear ARB air locker, ARB front bumper, custom rear bumper full skid plates, Asin manual locking hubs. Rock crawling has never been my thing but it has been to Moab a couple of times. Managed the Golden Crack unassisted. ARB pump has quick connect adapter for airing up tires and such.
- Working power door locks, power windows, AC, heat, F&R windshield washers
- Hella H4 Headlamps
- New BFG AT TKO Tires
- New KYB F&R Shocks
- New spark plugs and wires
- Upgraded to larger 4 piston front calipers
- Recently drained and flush AT fluid. Dropped pan, cleaned filter, new pan gasket. Oil change. Flushed cooling system, installed new thermostat.
- Going back a few years I replaced the valve guide seals, cam seals, crank seal and installed a new radiator and replaced all the hoses
Upcoming peace of mind maintenance
- Address the rough idle
- Replace front brake pads
- Replace torn passenger front CV boot
- Drain and fill front and rear dif fluid
- Rear passenger door does not open from outside
