Never did hear back from Poison Spider... May have to try a long distance call... :(

I may have another solution for you. I found a system you can order online that looks bang on the same. Let me do some digging and see if I can find it again. I prefer you support the Spyder crew of course, but if they will not sell it seperately.... What can you do?

Did you guys ever even get to use 4wd?

Lol, I don't have a choice. My rig is AWD :) I did use low a few times for some steep climbs, nothing like that Moab shot earlier in the thread. I am still in the building stage, not ready for the repair stage yet!

Thanks a bunch. I don't mind supporting someone that takes the time to put together something correctly. I shot a PM to their vendor on the military Jeepers site as well in a hopes to hear something. I'm not sure if they are wanting to look into it first or if there is just a communication disconnect.?. *shrugs* Its not a huge hurry for me but I'd like to at least hear a yea or nay from the proverbial horses mouth. :) If they can't or won't then I'll understand and will be begging you for info on the one you found online. haha! I wish I was better at online searches... computers are just not my thing.
And I love that line... "I am still in the building stage, not ready for the repair stage yet!" hahahaha! Quote of the day if I ever heard one! :)

Very nice. Since this is a shtf build, you got plans for defending this rig?

HAHA! Of course. I was taught as a youngster to never divulge what you posess for defense! Besides, this rig will likely just be our recreation vehicle with the capability of transporting our family in the case of an emergency or disaster.

The extra time and work on the bumper really shows! On the whole Jeep really!

I need to mod mine a bit but I got it done and on in time to get to Moab at midnight. Here are a few pics.

After paint I can see all sorts of grind marks and not so great fab work. It is functionally sound it could look better though. Notes for others may follow and build similar: My hatch JUST clears my tire when I open it, I need to mod it some more to fit a larger tire. I have it to the passenger side to keep the weight on the hinge as well as have room to add a jerry can. As I said before I made the opening to narrow, double check how wide the hatch is and make room for body flex. My latch also needs to be moved, it is hard to open and close but it loose when closed. Due to time constraints I had to weld it on instead of drilling tapping and bolting like I wanted to.

Thanks for posting this, it was fun to read about yours as I was building mine.

Hey, Its cool! I appreciate you trying. I sent a PM to Dusty (PS Vendor on Military Jeepers) but haven't heard back...Guess those guys don't want to talk to me? *shrugs* Oh well... I'll either look into fabricating my own ideas or plagiarize some of the many I have been looking at to make my own unique (bastardized!) version. haha!
When was your trip to moab? You didn't happen to see a built YJ on 35s that looked like some kind of Christmas color reject did you?

I am glad you enjoyed reading my thread. I really like the look and function of the front and rear bumpers on your rig. It looks to have tons of clearance front and back. I also checked out all of the pictures of your trip over on Mallcrawlin I think. Looks you guys had an incredible trip!!!! I love to see these ZJs used, they are a great platform if you ask me :) How long was the Grandslam trip?

I was out at Moab for Easter Jeep Safari, it was actually for work. I dont remember seeing that YJ, but it sure does look capable! We were testing out a new vehicle I helped to orchestrate the build for. My boss wanted a new JK, and we worked with quite a few great companies to build a great trail truck. Here is my story....

Thanks for the compliment, it was a lot of work and after seeing your work I appreciate your opinion. The best compliment I received was "Is that a Hanson bumper?". The front I have now is just the plastic bumper removed. I have plans to make an aluminum front with winch.

GSW is 4 days of wheeling. This was my sixth, and I don't plan on missing anymore. Only 30 something rigs this year, but we have sponsors, a pizza party with raffle, trail leaders for multiple levels of trails each day. VERY well run event! Great group of people from all over, California to Connecticut. You should try to make it, well worth the drive.

Got a reply from Dusty/PS today. He said they don't sell it. He did give me a link to a manufacturer of a spindle portion but I'm more interested in that latching mechanism. The spindle part is available through several places... Oh well. Guess I'll keep head scratching and see what I can come up with.
Thread steal off! :)

Sorry to hear that man! I kinda felt like they were taking really good care of me by supplying the parts. I wish you the best with your build. I will start lobbying for Poison to offer a kit, maybe the answer will be different in the future :)

Check out the stock tire carrier of a downsized Chevy Blazer or GMC Jimmy, late 90's era. They have a latch very similar to the one the OP used.

Nah... I kinda understand since they did the R&R to develop it and its kind of an exclusive to their bumpers. I do think they are missing out on selling it as a kit but that's their decision to make, not mine. :)

Ted Z... Thanks sir!!! That Does look very similar to the latch... hmm... Now where to find one of those in Germany. ;) Wonder if it can be ordered stand alone.?. And now that I am thinking about it... it kinda looks like one of the hood latches from an XJ.?. Double Hmmmm...!
