99' XJ: Slowly Going Down Under.

Wish they would post these good of pictures on there website! Ive been eying some rockrails for a while now I really like how well built these are.

Honestly I would have kept the Gas Tank Skid you will find that the front skid gets in the way a lot when trying to work on it and it won't really protect anything. Just my .02 but you can always go to the junkyard and score a factory gas tank skid for around 40$.

Jeep is looking good

Nice score with the rock rails.... They look really well built. I built my own but modeled them after AJ's.

If you are going to spray bomb them, ACE Hardware sells a black wrinkle finish that is really tough. Tougher than Rustoleum IMO.

Obviously not as tough as powder coat, but I did my roof rack over 2 years ago and it still looks great.

It has to be warm out when you spray it though in order for it to wrinkle up.

that thing is way to clean hahhaha i cant find one around here with a damn floor left in it..
you would be surprised how many people think the floor is fine until i lift the carpet and the steel is stuck to the insulation in my hand hahaha

Maybe i'll mention it too him. He provided great service and I was quite impressed with the finished product!

I contemplated it, but I figure I didn't need anything really that heavy duty just yet. So I ended up selling it for $180 AND I also got a factory gas tank skid with the money as well. So at least i've got some sort of protection.

Thanks! Yeah they look to be in great condition. If I had time to learn how to fabricate/weld, I probably would've have made an attempt to build my own as well. Thanks for the suggestion on the paint.

Your telling me. I've been desperately wanting to get out and get dirty. Lol that's probably the downside for living inside in the New England area... they put so much salt on the road, right?

now its not the salt that kills everything its the funny chemicals they are spraying all over the roads.. or maybe its a liquid salty solution... no idea.. all i know is it kills everything and fast... i looked at an 01 and crawled under then pushed my finger threw the floor and pushed up on the carpet.. looks like i will need to drive far to get a clean one...

Ah I see. If you are really serious, probably as you know, don't hesitate to look at XJs from the South, or states that don't really get gnarly winters. XJs (nice ones) are starting to become very difficult to find around the country.

im actually in TX now and ive been looking around and theres alot of 2wd cherokees... i have been looking for one under 6k, ill be in Atlanta in December so im going to look there aswell..

That antenna mount is pretty cool, but you might want to test it out and see if it works okay for you. CB antenna's work best with the base of the antenna sitting on a large flat horizontal metal surface, called a base plane. This pretty much means the roof. The way your antenna is located, a large portion of the antenna is shielded by the vehicle, and there is no base plane for good signal propagation. A simple mag mount on the roof will give you 10x better functionality out of your CB. But, its a fickle thing. Perhaps your's will work amazingly well. Test it with a buddy to find out. If its disappointing you, try moving it to the roof.

Nice sliders!

Thanks for the helpful information. I'll probably be a doing a little testing this weekend since I thin I am taking the Jeep out with friends for a little snow wheeling in the Cascades. Thanks, I really like these sliders so far!

Hey not trying to thread jack but I went with the some of the AJ's Super Square Rock Rails and man these things are bullet proof and should serve as a nice step to get in n out of. Thanks for the great pics I also ended up picking up a bumper from JCR Offroad.

Nice man! I'm quite satisfied with the AJ's Super RockRails and look forward to using them here in the next few months. JCR's new "Crusader" line is pretty cool, but I'd never buy there stuff.
