A/C in an Alaskan (or other popup)?

Any brilliant insights?

Two piece systems are very expensive for occasional use. Anyone use a small window unit?

I believe the FWC or All Terrain Campers use a small window unit on the backside of the camper.

A 2500 BTU unit is not going to work. 6000 btu will require patience to cool down a hot camper. My list at this point is

1) Nothing

2) Fit a small Fredrich window unit somewhere

3) A mattress cooler

Running the numbers I doubt a 12v unit is worth the much higher cost compared to a efficient 120v A/C. I figure about 3 hours on batteries with a 120 unit, and maybe 3.5 hrs with a really good 12v. Either way I'm running a generator overnight.

dzzz,
if you decide to spend this kind of money ,check out the amp/ voltage requirements .Ihave had several in my otr tractors, latest being a new 09 freightliner with newest insulation that freightliner has , with the insulated curtians around windshield, in miami it is doable , close the bunk curtian and it will freeze you,if you notice in the ad it says APU- PROPERLY SIZED (auxiliary power unit)on board generator, my carrier unit 2 cylinder deisel , more than did the job but you could really tell when cycling under a load in high temp and high humidity, but it sure was nice pulling in to tomato patch plug in electric fry pan fry up some chicken ,rice in the microwave, hot coffee....sorry got off track:coffeedrink: plus these units (I have had 4 Carrier and one Tripac(thermoking) are noisy, but you get used to it.

It just requires a generator.

$1600 for a coleman-mach A/C and a diesel espar is dirt cheap. The espar is going to need a muffler. The A/C will benefit from sound insulation.

These units were likely made up for a fleet buyer who is not going through with the purchase.

We don't advertise it, but we can install a small window AC unit in either our Hawk or Grandby Models.

(see sample picture attached)

Most of our customers do just fine with the Fantastic vent fan in hot weather, but customers that live in humid area (Texas, Florida, etc.) usually want some type of AC unit.

Happy Camping !
