Very nice! Is the bottom interior of the pocket threaded to accept a shackle pin? I can't tell how the ProLink is held into the pocket?

Cheers

Thank you as well! And yes the bottom hole is threaded to accept a standard 3/4 shackle pin. The bumper comes with two nice American made alloy pins for each pocket. You can also put a shackle in through just the top hole and have a lot of left to right movement for side pulls. Or double up the shackles and jack up the front of the truck with a Highlift jack. The shackle pin pockets give lots of recovery options and are perfect for times you just need a strap. and don't protrude out the front of the vehicle when not being used. Just keep the threads coated with anti seize to prevent corrosion.

Roof rack thoughts

i think I've settled in on what I want to do for a roof rack. I'm going to run 1-1/2" x .120 wall Dom tubes through from under the tops of the front fenders up the sides of the windshield and down the sides of the roof all the way to the back. It will cross over at the windshield and at a few spots over the roof. I will mount under the fenders similar to how safety devices mounts theirs under the fenders. And then attach along the pinch weld down the roof sides similar to standard racks. Not an exo cage or jungle gym looking thing but nice and clean and tight to the body.it should provide some roll over protection ( Better than nothing anyways) and provide a solid mounting platform for many options. As well as protect the a pillars/windshield from branches. This will also provide the base for my ultra light sleeping system. No roof top tent. Here's a pic of something similar to what I'm thinking. And I couldn't find any pics of 80series with it so that made me want to do it even more. What do you guys think?

finally getting back to working on my 80. here is the latest front I built and a new rear I'm in the middle of designing and building.20160828_100205.jpg20160828_100521.jpg20160828_100234.jpg

Here's the rear I'm in the middle of designing and building. I'm working on the ladder now and finishing the whole thing up this week. Those are two 3 gallon rotopax behind the tire. Then on to the rack I mentioned.

Very impressive work! The shackle idea on the front is a really clean and functional way to do it, and that rear is looking great too!

The rear bumper is looking every bit as impressive as the front! Question which you probably saw coming; why no shackle pockets on the rear? Also, how's the rack coming along? Between yourself and Benc there is ALOT of talented fabrication on this site.

Cheers

Nice work! Interesting with the fuel cans behind the spare tire, don't think I have seen that before. Looking good....

Thanks man. I haven't seen it yet either. after making the first rear and seeing how strong and rigid it was, I thought id go for it. it only sticks out 5.75" off the tailgate not including tire pad. and there is a .75" gap between the tailgate and carrier. I wanted a tire carrier that was strong and the tire didn't bounce around going down the road. The fuel carrying ability was a byproduct of the design. if one wanted that space could also be setup for storage with a drop down door as well. I have lots of ideas for this bumper. Here's the first one I made a few weeks ago. I also changed the mounting of the latch on the new design

Thanks for the kind words. To answer your question.. The reason my swing arms are inboard is to allow my recovery pockets to work and the pins to be removed. plus I think it looks so much better and give more dimension to the bumper. doesn't look so boxy. I may add them to this one if time allows. And yes Bens work is also very nice.

Where abouts in MA are you? I've been hunting for a fabricator in the north east to develop a few bits and pieces for my 3rd gen 4Runner (Front lip hidden winch mount and rear bumper with swing out).

Hi Patrick. I'm in Framingham. And along with my 80 and 60 I also have a 3rd gen runner. Iam very familiar with that generation 4runner/Tacoma. Ive had/built a few. Feel free to message me to discuss things further if you wish.

Thanks
Rich

Here it is today .The space between the bottom two rungs of the ladder is where a 2 gallon rotopax for water gets mounted. And those are two 3 Gallon fuel rotopax's mounted and protected under the high clearance tire mount. The ladder follows the contours of the body and the rungs are made from stainless steel as well as the grab bar at the top. I still have to fit up lighting and equipment mounting and some other features before final weld out and paint.IMG_20160901_224404.jpg

I have something similar in mind for my 100 series ladder.
Great minds think alike :)
