I've also had the Revo's and BFG AT's. I liked the revo's when new, but the did wear faster than the BFGs. They also were louder after a few thousand miles. Plus I think the BFGs are a better looking tire, the Revo's looked too car like for my taste.

I have the OME lift and debated between BFGs and Revo's, and ended up going with BFG ATs. I went with the 255/70/16. They are load range D. They ride as good if not better than my class C Revo's did.

They are 30.2" diameter, and only 9.8, so they are directly in between the 245/75/16 and 31x10.5x15 sizes.

In the end both tires were excellent all around tires and you really can't go wrong with either. It may come down to what price you can get them for.

So far I have about 5000 miles on mine and have not noticed any increase in noise. I also run them at 30-32 psi for the street and 18 psi in the dirt.

I will agree that BFG's wear like nails but I feel at the expense of pavement handling. Not that an XJ is a sports car but I feel much more sure footed if I have to brake really hard or make avoidance swerves. In the dirt, there is a slight edge with the A/T's but for me, any offroad trip will include 400-1000 miles worth of street driving and maybe 50-150 offroad, I put a higher weight to street performance then all out dirt.

I have to agree the BFG's look more aggressive but I soon got over that. :p

Also, I tend to put about 3000 miles a year on the XJ. I expect the REVO's to get 25-30,000 miles out of them so I'm looking 5+ years ease out of a set so the trade off of the longer lasting BFG's didn't outweight the load range available in the 245/75-16 size. I may have to look at those 255/70-16 next time around.

I had 31/10.5 15 BFGs once. The rims are Discount Tire No-Name Polished Aluminums (4.5" backspace). They were cheap and have held up for four years (they were orginally on my Ranger) with some very rough trails so I can recommend them.

I am sorry the picture is not a good side view but it appears this is best one I have from the 3.5" with 31s phase.

This morning I put my Garvin Wilderness rear bumper on. Due to the weight of the bumper, I'm leaving the jerry can holder and hi-lift off, to relieve some stress on the stock suspension until I install OME.

Here are some pictures from the install:

It's been a few months since I've done anything, until recently. In my quest to find attractive 15" wheels without breaking the bank, I came across a set of 5 for $100 on Craig's List. They're Jeep OEM, which is a huge bonus in my opinion. They were not, however, in too good of condition. The brake dust was caked, and they had streaks that needed a lot of elbow grease to remove. After a boatload of scrubbing to get them halfway decent, I decided to make them a little... prettier. I want them to be rugged looking, but still keep a classy, modest road appearance.

Here's what I started out with:
Notice the dirt and grime. This crap was on all five.

Cleaning involved washing, scrubbing, sweating and cussing.
After I got most of the gunk off, I sanded the top coat off to prep for paint. This was arduous as well, as getting all the nooks and crannies and the outer lip was tough on my girly fingers. The first coat of primer was thin, to get a tack, and the second coat was thicker to make sure I get full coverage.

Color choice: GUNMETAL
And I think it was a fantastic choice. Once again, I started with a light coat to get the tack, and added about 3 more coats after. I followed up with a couple layers of clear coat.

Black center caps, for tasteful touch of contrast.
When I get these puppies on the Jeep, I'll probably paint the lugnuts black as well. Here's a before and after shot.

I'm pleased with how it turned out. Elegant, but ready for the dirt.

Nice! Wheels look great and you picked a good color choice.

Glad to see you got a replacement after what happened to the last XJ.
