AEV Brute Double Cab

Black Dog

Makin' Beer.
Dodges and Toyotas are not Jeeps whereas this one technically is, even if not a factory produced Jeep. So there never will be a comparison. Why can't we just agree that it is cool, even if you don't want one you don't have to be a jerk about its downsides and spoil it for everyone else.

That thing is dead sexy. If it had a Cummins I might have to sell off one of my cuter kids in Mexico or somewhere to scrounge up the funds.

Agreed. With a diesel motor it could be a new standard in the industry for serious expedition work.

I hate to be the downer but why buy this (OTHER THAN ITS FRICKEN SWEET) when you could buy an H3T Alpha with the v8 front and rear locking diffs etc. Yes I know its a hummer and its probably not quite as equipped from the factory but for the extra 40k you could do some work. I dont have the dimensions but im sure I could find them. Heres mine and even with all my changes im sitting at under 40k total invested.

Haven- check the wheelbase of the previous generation PW(Quad Cab, ie:'07), and you will scarey close to matching, and the extra width would be welcome on side slopes...

The Tacoma is the better comparison of the two, but really not a good comparison.

The Land Rover 130 seems to be a better comparison. Solid axle at least.

JPK

Both the quad cab Tacoma and Defender 130 are good comparisons. There are no Land Cruiser variants produced from the factory in that configuration.

The result from AEV is visually striking. It satisfies my love of the 130 with performance that could not be matched by any other turn-key offering.

You did a great job on the H3. Finally a h2 or h3 without a bunch of stupid bling!!!

It is also close in size to a first generation Tundra. I'm not a Jeep aficionado, but even I find the 4 door Jeep truck very, very enticing.

The Brute Double Cab is definitely cool. Maybe the best part is that AEV plans to sell replicas of this project to anyone who has the cash. Many of their projects remain one-off vehicles.

Regarding the size comparisons, the purpose is to help people understand where this vehicle fits in the overall market.

Regarding downsides, the only one I see at this point is price. That's no surprise, the high quality AEV produces doesn't come cheap.

As for being a jerk about it, I apologize if my remarks dampened anyone's enthusiasm.

It will be interesting to learn if the cargo capacity of the Brute is increased over the Jeep Unlimited. I'd also like to know if AEV chose Dana 44 or Dana 60 axles.

I wonder if AEV is delaying the start of production to mid-2012 so they can incorporate the VM Motori V6 diesel. This 3.0L motor produces 400 ft-lbs of torque. Chrysler is planning to put this diesel under the hood of the Grand Cherokee for the 2013 model year, and the EPA certification will need to be complete about mid-2012!

I keep hearing about this motor going into the GC for 2013 - do you have a link or direct quote confirming that?
(I'm not trying to be a pain, I'm seriously excited about the possibility and would like to see it confirmed as 100% fact.

Also I have every single finger and toe crossed that AEV will put it into the new Brute.. as that means AEV will have a conversion to drop it into a JK...

Right on! thanks.

That article links to the "actual" interview here http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20111017/OEM06/310179979/1186
With the following quotes:
Marchionne said Chrysler's hybrids would be in addition to a broad offering of diesel-powered vehicles in the United States.
He said Chrysler will begin offering a diesel-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2013, and thereafter most Chrysler Group large vehicles will offer a diesel in the United States.
(so he's basically acknowledging they can't meet the strict CAFE standards without hybrids, and they'll use diesels too.)

Excellent!

Still silence about a diesel Wrangler, however.

Nice Rig! What is Jeep waiting for??
Fiat can you hear us now???

It would be nice to do a test between the Jeep AEV 4 Door truck and a Power Wagon.

I like the idea of a 6-foot bed for Expo and camping use though.
