I dunno, Kerry. After seeing that pic of your truck with the kayaks on the roof and all the family on board for a family weekend away ..... I think you've got your priorities in order, just the way they are.

Keep us updated John

Yeah Mick. No worries. We've got 2 other jobs going as well that I'll try and post some pics of later.

One is Stage 1 of Oz101's( from ExPo) but I 'll post them in his build thread that he started. At this stage it will be a LWB FG84 with a full length covered tray that he can use to cart his quads and also use as a work truck during the week. We've already mounted the tray he supplied and now he's taken it back to do some more work on it. I pre-fitted up his bullbar today but am still waiting for the APE 12000lb winch to turn up.

He's been the easiest customer I think we've ever had. As a successful builder he must be used to solving problems and making good decisions. Wish they we're all as understanding. We 're hoping to keep doing things on his truck in stages when he's not using it. Very nice guy. Can see why he's doing so well. He 's a bit of a techno junkie too and has helped us do alot of research into the new FG's.

It'll have a very comprehensive audio, nav, phone, camera system. Mainly Alpine. Dual mode cruise control wired direct into the ECU > "60/80/100/off" preset speed limiter or normal "set/resume" mode, remote central locking, electric windows (all Fuso parts out of Japan and we mod the harness), 220 litres of water for now, hotwater system, shower, LED lighting in the back, SRW of course, dual Fuso fuel tanks, and a 5 link coil front end. That's stage 1. Eventually we'll finish the rear suspension and put on a pop top body that can quick change with the tray (read OZ101's build thread).

The other big job is a Round The World truck that we were asked to build but with the other jobs on we said we wouldn't be able to finish it all in his time frame. As a result the guy has taken his next best option which was to have us build the truck and he's getting one of the well known offroad caravan builders to build the body. We built 2 floor frames the same and sent one down to them to build the body on while we continue working on the truck. Heaps of fuel in big alloy tanks, lots of water with filtration, all the stuff to cope with everything from Ice Trucker roads to Safari in Africa. Full bar covered cab. This is the one with the 16,500lb Warn.

He's planing a 4 and a half year trip so it'll have to be tough.

So yeah Mick I'll keep you posted. Actually Oz101 will eventually need a trailer for his quads when he gets Scout. Have you got any ideas?? I was going to send you a PM about this but maybe someone else might have seen something around. Offroad of course and with 19'5"wheels and same track as the FG. Mick?? Anyone???

Sounds good John.

5 Link on a Canter:Wow1: You guys doing that yourselves or getting it done somewhere else? Have you seen the massive link suspension thread on Pirate4x4?

I am leaving at dawn tomorrow to go up to 1770 to fix a boat of ours (the one I was asking you about solar panels discharging inside the shed) and then going out to Fitzroy Reef on a fishin......whoops......I mean a research and development trip. I'll talk over a couple of ideas for Oz101's trailer with the boss while we are fishi......D'oh did it again.......doing R&D.

Hey Oz101 - What type of trailer? Fully enclosed? Open box trailer? How many quads? Anything else it has to carry?

Hi Mickldo,
I didn't want to highjack the thread so I have sent PM with info.
And if you need any help with that boat just give me a shout.

Building on a FUSO FM

whatcharterboat

Have you guys had any experience building on the Fuso FM truck? I know it's a much more HD truck than the FG.

I am planning a RTW build and am looking seriously at a 2007 FM (no fuel issues with this older motor.)

Gidday, Sorry . We usually only work on offroad trucks so the short answer is “No”. However I have plenty of miles behind the wheel of an ’01 model FM. We call them a Fighter and the FG is called the Canter. Good truck.

Also take a serious look at the Isuzu’s. I’d talk to Darrin Fink who did the 4x4 / FM conversion for Dan Ruops. I realize you may want to stay with 2wd but he’d be a very good man to talk to, regardless. I get on really well with him and for a ‘ol farm boy he does some amazing work. Well he’s not that ‘ol. Haha.

Hi Mick. Yep thanks. Finding the components big enough is the trouble. Everything is usually for cruisers , patrols and F trucks. Too small. I'll keep you posted. It's happening now anyway.

Give me a call next R & D outing. Sounds like you need a hand. Lol.

Something very cool. OZ101's audio.

The first full integrated media unit we've done in an FG. Navigation, audio, reverse cameras, phone, DVD, Mp3, etc, etc. The nav is controlled by a smaller remote Nav unit that stays in the locker with the iPod. It also comes with a full car kit for your daily driver so you can swap the remote nav over easily. Bluetooths to your phone so that stays in the locker too. Everything is done on the touch screen or voice command? Phone cuts in over the speakers etc. and comes up with all your phonebook contacts on screen when someone you know calls, etc. Also we put some 5"splits with the tweeters up near the sunvisors. Never heard audio in a truck sound so good. Overkill? Well it's certainly makes for a clean and uncluttered dash and will really come into its own when camped up on those rainy days.

Hi Mick, A peak at the shock's we've had made for the 5 link. Basically a race shock in a heavy duty body. Really light compression but extreme rebound and I mean extreme like 3 normal aftermarket shocks combined. 25mm shafts and eyes. 300mm travel. Run very cool compared to a Koni or similar. Simple to rebuild. That's a standard FG shock next to it as a comparison.

Hi Mick. This is what is finally going on the first ones anyway. We went for dust boots and finned alloy reservoirs and I think the final versions will have cast alloy bodies that will be finned as well.

BTW these are the coils too. OZ101 will be getting the first one and hoping to get it out by next weekend as he has a trip to the Cape planned so it will be a good first test. Corrugations, corrugations and corrugations. ...

Engineer. I said to Adam he should drop in and see you for some travel advice if he has time when he's passing through Cairns.

Fabulous work, John! Thanks for sharing. When will ATW open a store in Los Angeles? :sombrero:

When you can, tell us more about the 'round the world truck project. Will it use your Scout camper, or a larger model?
