An expedition truck on portals...

That eagle is bad arsed. I assume that in order to have such a bird in Europe, like here, requires a master falconer's license and is highly regulated ?
I imagine pulling up next to that very cool porsche @ an intersection and seeing an eagle in the passenger side must make your friend the talk of the town.

No love on a shipping line calling on Eastern coast of Russian Republic yet.

You can be assured of that. Owning and keeping such a bird requres more than just a few permits in Germany :)

Don´t worry about the shipping....I will probably just drive into port and ask for a ride :)
What about shipping it from Japan?
Anyone done that before? It´s pretty straight forward to go across Sakhalin and enter Japan. Might just as well drive to Tokyo if I am in the neighbourhood.

Could maybe also try and get a flight with the US Air Force??? :D

Today was a good day and after a long time of mere driving and some testing it was a day that probably got me further to building the next ideas I have in my sketchbook.

It´s all, like in the past, about speaking with people, meeting the right people at the right time and finding a connection.
This mostly requires a lot of time and patience but it´s definitly worth it.

My plan has been, for phase 3 and 4 of this project, to find a proper solar system to mount inside the roll cage above the cabin and suitable batteries for what I have in mind.
I havn´t found the solar panels yet, but we are getting close.

Nonetheless a friend introduced me to a great bunch of young scientists and they have the right, fully sealed and "intelligent" batteries for my purpose and the power management system.
The package is now being put together and after a test in their lab, we´ll install everything in the truck before I leave for the Breslau and then my overland trip to the US.

While waiting today, I discovered this little eco "racer" and took it for a spin in "sports" mode :)

The next 10 days will be pretty busy as I will work 15/7 on the truck and prepare my overland trip.
The remaining lights will be installed and properly wired as will be the comms and if it works out the new suspension setup.

So long,

Robert

Yeah, one guy working at the company zipped across the parking lot and I am always amazed about these eCars...They are even less comfortable than a Defender, you can´t get a decent amount of beer and barbeque stuff inside and they are a danger for pedestrians and wildlife, too....no sound! If they at least would use a proper soundsystem and emulate the low rpm sound of a new Defender....well nobody will listen to me on this, too :(

This particular car was fun on the road but it´s like a "Etap-Hotel" on wheels when it comes to fabrication and materials chosen :(

Got a fantastic offer on something I wanted to try at some point anyway.
I will take my Proflex shocks nonetheless, just in case and my coils stay in, too!

We´ll see and I will find out somewhere along the road :)

Hey Robert,

What are you planning for the suspension? Also how do you like the lights so far?

I am not commenting on the suspension before I really have it here.
The lights are great!

I love driving at night even more now :D

I took a few pictures the last week while driving but they arn´t really good. I will make a few comparison shots this weekend if you like.

Panik....with all the preparations and planning on what to take with me and how to build things to work best I forgot a pretty important thing :(

Where do I put my two snowboards? Being both old-school longboards I really have a problem....

Robert, you should drive down through BC instead of Alberta, then you can visit me in Hope BC, and we can try out my Mattracks on your truck. Does your truck still have a Defender bolt-pattern on the wheels? I think it would look awesome on the tracks with the portal axles. I can put the 38's on my 110 and we can explore the hills a bit.

Plus we have our own private (read abandoned) ski hill in the mountains behind our house. It would be a good excuse to get out the snowboards. I was up in the hills today, and the snow on the glaciers is nice and deep, not bad for August 16th. (The last few years the glaciers have been receding but the heavy spring snowfall this year has made up for it.)

Cheers

Well, Ray....that´s a treat :)

Sadly I have the G-Wagon bolt pattern because wanted exactly these wheels.
I don´t think I will manage to change that before I leave.
Snowboards are definitly going to be on the truck. I may leave the powder gun behind but not the Nitro Diablo.
