An old Ugly Pickup "Build"

About a year and a half ago i sold my 2006 RSX Type S and bought an old 1989 Toyota Pickup in hopes on no car payment and off-road adventure.
This truck and i have been through quite a lot since i bought her.
She spent her life mainly as a ranch truck. Sat in the sun, a lot and did not get driven much. It had just under 150,000 on the ODO when i got it. Since i've replaced just about everything under the hood, most because parts break or stop working.. Some preventive maintenance.

At this point now, she has 161k on the ODO and a few adventures under her belt. Added a few small mods here and there.
My fiance and i are planning a trip from our home in the SF Bay Area to Vancouver Canada for our honey moon in mid october 2015. Making this thread to track our progress on the truck as we move closer to our departure date.
What ive done to old Rojo so far;

15" steel wheels wrapped in 31" Firestone All Terrains
Rough Country shocks
CB radio
Roof rack with cargo box
Camper shell(s)

Other than that just sinking lots and lots of money into maintenance... very boring.

Heres a few shots-

Day i bought the truck. Total culture shock coming from the luxuries of a modern day Acura. I loved it instantly though!

New Shocks, wheels and tires.

That's not old! Or ugly! :)

Looks like a great truck! From the description, I was expecting something completely different than the first photo.

Does it have the 22RE or 3VZ-E? It looks like the grill might have a V6 emblem but it looks like it's in the wrong place...and could be a transplanted grill...

Looking forward to following along.

Thank you!
It has the 3vze. And now that you have pointed that out im noticing most have the v6 emblem on the other side of the grill. Very weird.

Nice! I remember seeing that campershell on CL! Where a outs in the Bay Area are you?

The white one? Awesome.
I live in Pleasanton. The camper was up north of Santa Rosa though.

I love this ol truck, prefered your old wheels though!

Wish i kept them, mistake selling them :(

With that canopy, I suggest a snow camo paint job for the truck.

Would be so sick!
I am plastidipping the truck, just not snow camo. Ive already done one fender as a test!

Dude that'd be epic if you could fill me in on some cool spots. Would much appreciate!

Yep I live in Santa Rosa, so I saw that shell! Probably drove right by each other.

Small world!
I love this shell. Seems really well built, and pretty well insulated. Slight fitment problem being its for a Tacoma Access cab (cab has a slight lean forward on those access cab Tacos, while my cabs straight up), but im making it work. Great deal for a couple hundred bucks. Just gotta transfer my rack over to it.

Anyway, anyone have any experience with trail gear bumpers? Im looking for a rear bumper with hitch inlet and the main one im running into online is this trail gear one. Seems decent and for $300 the price point is right.http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/yotamain/4runner/bumpers/rock-defense-rear-bumper.html

Any feed back would be great!

Smart move! 4 years ago I sold my Lexus and duramax and got a 1972 ford F250 and now also have an '86 Toy. No car payments, no excessive insurance costs, it's surprising how much money you have when your not paying for those things. People may tell you an older rig can't be a d.d., since a guy decided to park on top of my motorcycle my toy has been my daily in Portland traffic with no problems.

I'm running Trail-Gear bumpers on both of my trucks... it's hard to beat the price! And add me to the list for people running older rigs as daily drivers...
