Thanks for mentioning that Best Buy is now selling the Dell Streak for $50. You need to purchase a two year data plan from AT&T to get this price. The basic contract is $40 for 450 voice minutes per month, plus $15 for 200 MB of data transfers. 2 GB of data transfers costs $25 a month. Pay 20 cents per text (30 cents if the text includes image or video), or pay $20 a month for unlimited texting.

I think this is a great example of how buying behind the curve of innovation can save money, and still provide you with a useful gadget. The forums I've looked at say Best Buy's repair department is very slow, taking 3 to 4 weeks to repair the Streak. So you might want to look into some sort of insurance that will get you a replacement right away if you use the Streak as your phone as well as your Android computer.
The Streak was first released with Android 1.6. Dell updated to Android 2.2 (Froyo) last December. As of 2/23/2011, AT&T customers can upgrade to 2.2 over the air if the Streak sold at Best Buy comes with 1.6.
The Dell Opus One will replace the Streak later this year (some say May, some say end of the year). The Opus One will have a much higher resolution screen (1280x800 vs the Streak's 480x800), but it's unclear if the higher resolution will translate into more information on the screen. My guess is that it will just make text and pictures look sharper. The Streak has a 5 inch screen, so it doesn't make sense to reduce the text to a microscopic level.
The Opus One will feature a faster dual core processor, too. The Dell Streak with 7 inch screen has a dual core processor, and runs benchmarks about 80% faster than the single core Streak 5 running Android 2.2. The Opus One will likely run the benchmarks faster still. The effect on battery life of the faster processor remains to be seen, but the new processors are a lot more efficient.

i was grandfathered in with an unlimited data... hee hee.
i made sure that as i was coming off an iPhone 3G which i bought over 3 years ago. back then, it was talk minutes + unlimited data was the only option that att offered.
but you know what happened. everyone complained about slow networks and att made the switch to tiered data plans.
if i didnt get the unlimited data plan, i woulda picked another phone and carrier.
i always suspected that the delay for the froyo upgrade was att didnt want tethering since that came with it. and now since att has new data tethering plans that just came out this month... guess what. 2.2 upgrade for everyone.

During a Nokia developer training class I attended last spring, we were told that Nokia had partnered with ATT and that it will be made available on their network. The event and a related application development contents was co-sponsored by ATT. We were given N8s and free minutes on ATT so I'm inclined to believe that it was more than just rumors. It might be worthwhile to wait a few more months and buy one direct from ATT at a lower cost with contract.
That workflow seems very complex. Looks like someone needs to write a WordPress app for the N8.

If you are an Amazon member they might have emailed you a few days ago with a new app for the Android phones called The App Store, which Apple is suing them for using the name.
Anyways, Amazon can now bring apps directly to your phone instead of using the stock Android Market Place that comes on the phone.
The cool part is they are giving away a free app daily that normally cost $$$.
I got a cool game today, and a cool one Tuesday, but I passed on the Texas Hold'em game yesterday, as I am not into poker.
There are all kinds of apps there, and not all of the paid ones that are free on the daily thing will be games.
The app on your phone pretty much looks like this web page, and you can see the free Doodle game I got today.
The one I got a few days ago was the Angry Birds one, again, a paid app for free that day.

Gizmodo says the Motorola Atrix phone will be available for $49.99 this weekend through Amazon's Wireless store. The phone normally costs $99 to $129 with a two year AT&T contract.
I checked Friday night, and the $49.99 price is available if you're opening a new account, but not as an upgrades for current AT&T customers.

Just got back from Moab and Canyonlands NP using Backcountry Navigator PRO on my original Motorola Droid. App costs $10.00
Resounding thumbs up for this product. Very useful in the field. I downloaded in advance large sections of the Maze district and Elephant Hill at the highest resolution from MyTopo.com. App and phone worked flawlessly the entire trip.
I haven't transfered the tracks off the phone yet, I'll post again, when I've done that.

Have had my original Moto Droid two years come this November, then I am trading up to the new quad core Droid that comes out with a much faster CPU when it hits the market November/December.
I am to fast for my current Droid, I am always waiting on it to catch up.
I may also look at tablets then too.

Yep, my Motorola DROID is almost 2 years old now, and I have noticed that some things are a bit slower.
Granted, I have a whole lot more apps on it, and seem to add more weekly. (as does my son, ever play 'Hit Penguin'?)
I moved a lot of stuff to the SD card, and do the 'Task killer' thing every few days, and it seems to help.
I just added 'Google+' to my Droid, and it works great.
Going to look into the 'quad' thing, sounds interesting.

I had an original android, Google G1, it was the fastest and only thing on the market for a while, I now have a droid 2 global, It was the fastest on the market for a while.. Its going to be a game of fastest... I would prefer faster screen manipulation and load time over a faster application running speed, Dont have many apps that really need a lot of CPU..

I just read a review in MaximumPC about the new Moto Droid 2X (I think the X?), and they panned it. Yes, it's fast with the Tegra2 dual core proc similar to the Xoom and Tab tablets, but had really bad pixel lag and sluggishness at certain tasks. They voted it as Skip It.
