Man your rig is amazing!!! I cant wait to hear how the lokka turns out. Did you add the rear diff lock when you swapped the rear?

You are gonna love the lokka off road. On road use the manual hubs!

Put me down for a rear diff guard if you are taking orders!

If true first one goes together like it should, I'll make a post to see who wants them.

I'm working on the design for the front, tonight.

A dozen or so mockups later, I think the rear differential skid plate pattern is finished.

Hello KIRK, I've been following your posts since day one. I admire your level of detail and your craftsmanship when working on custom parts for your rig. I also miss seeing your updates. I am anxious to hear about your gear upgrade and how the 4.63 are working for you. have you installed them?

I have been trying to psych myself up for the install. I have a great mechanic who will do it for fairly cheap, but I'm pretty broke. I'm hoping to tackle it weekend-after-next. I have a four-day weekend, so if I start on that Friday I should be able to get it done by Monday...hopefully. I'm debating changing out the balljoints and other bits while I have it apart. I will definitely be doing the wheel bearings, rotors and pads since I already have them in hand.

I'm getting the rear quarter damage repaired tomorrow by a friend of a friend. He does decent work for cheap, but that's all I'm looking for. After that I'll be making quarter covers, sort of like people put on their Jeep rear corners.

Also look for other coming projects like raising the gas tank, extending the gas tank skid plate, reinforcing the front skid plate, making a skid plate to go behind the front skid plate...and more.

Cool stuff man I'm looking forward to seeing your projects. I have a 98 and I'm basically getting ideas from you and the other guys here to build it up.

FINALLY, some more progress!

A couple weeks ago I installed the new front and rear diffs with the 4.636 gears and the front locker. Can't wait to try out the front locker. Plus I figured out why the rear locker wasn't engaging, all the teeth were sheared off. Totally my fault for engaging it while the Montero was moving.

This past weekend I got around to adding 1.5" wheel spacers. I'm not a fan of wheel spacers, but the new larger tires were rubbing in the front at full lock. What should have been an easy job was a real pain since I also had to replace the wheel studs with longer versions. I also had to swap out the studs in the spacers. While I was in there though, I swapped in new rotors, pads and wheel bearings.

New studs and rotors.

Spacers on.

While I was working on the rears, I finally cut out the sway bar. I had left it in, but disconnected, to see how the handling differed. There was almost no change, so away it goes.

Oh yeah, I also fixed the rear quarter that I smashed on Snake Lake Trail. I'll be adding bedliner all the way up both rears to cover it up.

Checking it out with the spacers installed. I don't think they stick out too far. I'll still likely upgrade to wheels with a different offset when my Bronco project is done.

2 things I noticed here. 1st is that you might want to slowly flex out the rear axle with someone watching before you hit the trail again, the added spacers have pushed the tires further out and increased your chances of cutting them on the fenders. 2nd is you have severely blocked airflow to the radiator with all of those lights, these things tend to run hot without added obstructions, so keep an eye on temps when stopped or going slow and could affect highway driving as well.
