Finally got to working on the rock sliders for the Montero today. I picked up a random unfinished pair on Craigslist over a year ago for just $80. They were too long so I shortened them and rotated one end around to protect the rear part where the rockers angle out. They fit awesome now. Tomorrow I'll get on the mounts.
They were 10" too long. I had already started cutting the first 5" sections out in this photo.
I stopped by the local steel store today and picked up tubing for the mounts and tubing for the sleeves. They just happened to have these 4" square plates cut and drilled in their scrap selection.
5" sections cut out for half of the 10" total.
Deciding to flip one end
6" sections cut that slide in snug.
Test fitting the sleeves.
Check out the difference between the cut and uncut sliders.
The fit before drilling and chamfering.
Drilling the holes to plug weld the sleeves in place.
I marked the center of each sleeve so I'd know how far to slide them in.
I slid the other pard of the slider on to keep everything aligned.
Tacked up.
Filled.
Welded.
They cleaned up pretty well. Good enough, since I'll be spraying them with bedliner.
Oh, and I also picked up a pair of bouncy seats last week.
