Heya bobDog, we are happy that's why. We started out on a trip for 1 or 2 years and we ended up just going and going. The end is no where in sight.

Really speechless to see this kind of wear so short after a complete body work job in Bolivia!
Using brains not power, makes us who we are.
Preparing the Tig welding equipment. This is the first time ever in a workshop I have seen people using a earth for welding like this!
Getting the reinforment in place and opening the original piece to "pull" in the new aluminum.
Tig welding is an art and Carlos is a master!
Immense heat is produced with Tig welding. Protective gloves and leather jacket are a must.
This is the finished weld. Looks great!

You guy's must know by now, that SikaFlex is my favorite fixing tool ;-)
Really fat long stainless steel rivets shortened by hand to fit the roof top tent rails.

My favorite adhesive: Sikaflex.
Apply freely to glue rubber on the roof exstension.
Press lightly and let it cure for 12 hours.

Some more fabbing to be done!
Taking care of some rusted taillights.
Talking about quality products. This Engel fridge is produced in 1982 and still running strong! We like quality products!
At night the Land Cruiser sleeps alone :-(
As there are some aluminum specialists here, we take the opportunity to repair the aluminum rear bumper and enhance it a bit.
Soldering new connectors with the handy gas soldering kit we bought a few years ago in Argentina.

A little touch up is in order here. Would you believe us if we say we had a total rebuild just over 2 years ago?
New heavy duty steel has been put in place a few days ago! 200% improvement. All those curves, takes skill.
Luis fixes some little holes on the rim of the side panels, now the roof is off, it's simple to attack these places.
We've got a looker again
Shiny and new! It pays to get your car painted every 2 years :-0

Yeah, the job wasn't done very well in La Paz, Bolivia. Also living in the Amazon for almost 2 years isn't favourable for the car.... We'll we have to keep moving haven't we...
So more in Brazil:
The left radiator support broke on the Transamazônica. Last time this happened was in Ushuaia.
Guess what I'm installing on the rear bumper of our Land Cruiser?
Just park the Land Cruiser in front a Supermarket in Brazil and you will have paparazzi's around you in 5 minutes.
Do you cook on gas? Is your gas coming out of the wall, or do you have to go get a cylinder? In Brasil, they deliver!
Karin-Marijke cleans the window, before we hit the dust again to capture those big lorries blazing by trailing dust.
Yahooooo, getting dusty again! When did you get dusty last?

Untraceable: not license plate, logs untagged and driving at ridiculous speeds. Illegal logging has to stop!
Then they cut up all the Amazon rainforest and turn into lumber....
Big planks turn into smaller planks by these guys. Impressive. We see a lot of untagged logs here... :-(

After a few hours of this, everything is covered under a thin layer of red bull dust. Penetrates everything!

Just like killing elephants....damned hard to stop unless people want to help and create other ways of income. Income that pays the same. And income that is sustainable.
There is an old Navajo saying that says the every time you do something wrong it's like having a square rock where your heart is. It turns and hurts w/ every bad deed, but eventually the sharp corners wear off and the pain goes away.
