Any of you running 235/85/16 tires?

...Any feedback on running 235/85/16 on stock 1st Gen Tacoma 16in wheels? Thats what I will be mounting to.

No problems there. That's what I had mine mounted on. I did get slight rub at full lock, just FYI (as evident on the frame).

I will be picking mine up tomorrow afternoon. Looking forward to it and keeping my fingers crossed they fit with stock suspension. I've read they do fit. The general grabbers can also be fitted with studs for those who need them in the snow. I will definitely report back with mpg data as I am pretty anal about that stuff.

8k on my 235/85r16 Duratracs. I couldn't be happier. They do rub on my limited flares a little under full compression. I run an OME lift.

Suppose I wanted to run this tire size. Where do I find a 16x5.5" (or so) wheel with correct bolt pattern and also hub centric??? Or does it not have to be hub centered. I don't think a 7-7.5" wide stock wheel would look or function as good with this tire size. What were your guy's solutions?

I'm now running these tires and I'm impressed. They have less rolling and turning resistance than the smaller diameter generals I had before. I will try to post some pics up asap but am dealing with computer issues at the moment.

Here they are. I don't have my first tank MPG yet but did do a shakedown road trip up to Big Bear yesterday. No off-roading but overall I like this size better than my other set of Grabber AT/2s in 265/70/16. I don't have any rubbing like I did with the older set but I am certain that has to do with the rim/tire combination. The only drawback so far is the tracking on-road is different. The new ones seem to need more attention but it isn't anything problematic. Here are some pics:

These BF's have an awesome rating for wet and snow.

These BF's have an awesome rating for wet and snow. Excited to see how they look with steelies. Maybe I should have the steelies painted white. Love the safari look. :)

ETAV8R Are the sipes full tread depth? That's my concern compared to BFG AT's. The grabbers even received better user ratings on Tire Rack!

The stock 7" wheels are perfect for these tires. I think the 235/85-16 is the ideal tire for these trucks, and I wouldn't run anything else. Even in bad gumbo mud these tires do a great job. I did add 1" spacers behind my wheels to give the truck a slightly wider track. I believe that has helped stability.

I've driven mine in a lot of ice and snow so I had the tires center siped. The machine siping does a far better job than molded siping. The reason is that the edges of the molded sipes are constantly getting rounded, while the cut sipes are constantly getting sharpened.

Hi - 16 x 8 is too wide for a 235 tire IMHO........6-6.5' wide would be max rim width that ya want.
No that is incorrect. I ran just that rim on my 04 f350 for 7 yeas until truck burnt on me last year.

I'm looking for confirmation that my understanding is correct that for snow a narrow tire is preferred. I'm not talking about the Arctic Trucks but for normal winter conditions.
Tall skinny tires are best for driving in the snow. But if wheeling in deep snow then some fatter tire for better floatation is better.

Lurker post... I have a Jeep, but I like the thread, so I'll toss out a little more info... I'm currently running 285's, but this winter I ran some 215/85R16's and LOVED them! I'm heading for 235/85's as my next tire. One of my neighbors is running 235/85 Cooper ST Maxx tires on a Rubicon (With 8" wide wheels!!) and they look awesome, and he really likes the way they work. Note that the ST Maxx has a fairly wide tread for a 235/85, so they actually look pretty good on the 8" wheel, but he did say that the tire shop had a little difficulty getting them to air up on the wide wheel. I'll be trying them on my 8" wheels too, so I think they'll be fine on a 7" wheel. But I think the BFG version has a really narrow tread, so they might prefer a wheel on the narrow side...

I think he was feed a line, because not once ever did I have a problem getting mine to air up Copper disveror M&S and the at's.

The five different types of tires in this size I looked at all stated 7 or 7.5 was the max rim width to run. I'm going back to my stock wheels this time around.

Not once was I ever told that my 8" rims were to big.

Would also like to point out someone not sure who sorry, but said 235 are dually tires again not true, most ford 1 tons came with them standard.
